Chapter 21
I couldn’t stop smiling as I read the message on my phone.
Alex: I saw this gorgeous dress and thought of you. But as I went to get the dress, I saw these
beautiful heels that I know will go so well with it. Then this bag too.
Alex: I’m currently broke because of you, but it’s worth it. Where are you, my queen?
I laughed softly, shaking my head.
My heart warmed instantly. Alex had a way of making me feel like I was everything.
zzie: At that park. Where else would I be?
His reply came almost immediately.
Alex: Of course, your favourite place. Stay there. I’m coming to see you. I miss your face.
bit my lip with a stupid smile stuck on my face as I placed my phone down.
The park had become my hideaway. It was a quiet peaceful place where I could relax and release tension.
I tapped my fingers on the table as I waited for Alex.
A warm smile crossed my lips as I thought about Alex.
Alex was nothing like I had expected. I knew him before I got married to Marcus as some cold, brooding guy who hated his brother and loved calling me ‘Izzie‘.
The night before my wedding to Marcus, he had pulled me aside with an intense and fierce look in his eyes:
‘Izzie, if Marcus ever hurts you, make sure you come to me.”
And I was so glad I did.
As my mind went back to Marcus, my chest ached as I thought back to his betrayal.
I never could have imagined that he would do such a thing to me.
My phone buzzed with another message from Alex.
Alex: I’m so sorry, but I saw this bracelet, and I couldn’t resist.
I laughed again at his message as my chest warmed from his message. He always knew how to lift my mood, even with a simple text.
After some minutes, someone walked towards me, and my heart skipped.
I looked up, expecting Alex with a wide smile on my face.
But the smile slipped from my face the moment I saw who it was.
Marcus.
I froze.
He spotted me instantly and quickly made his way towards me with relief in his face.
I stiffened, and I immediately texted Alex before Marcus got to me.
Izzie: Marcus is here…

Then I placed my phone face–down beside me.
“Oh, my goodness, Isabella.” Marcus breathed out in disbelief..
He looked like he had seen a ghost. His lips were parted, and his eyes wide with disbelief.
For a moment, I couldn’t move. My heart pounded in my chest as I was taken back to that day.
The day of the fire, when he left me there to die, yanking away that extra gas mask from my
reach.
His eyes shone with unshed tears as he hurried towards me with outstretched arms.
I stiffened, giving him an icy glare. “Don’t even dare.”
He paused. He even had the nerve to look surprised. “What… What’s going on? Isabella, it’s me,
Marcus.
I gave him an incredulous glare. “And what am I supposed to do with that information, Marcus?” I asked coldly.
He gaped like a fish, closing and opening his mouth several times before he spluttered.
“I’m here to save you, Isabella.”
I blinked once, then twice. “I’m sorry, what?”
“I know that Alexander kidnapped you, Isabella. But I’m here to save you because you’re my wife, and I love you.” He said quickly, looking frantic as he stretched his hand towards me.
I stared at him like he had just lost his mind. “What nonsense are you saying?”
“Look, we don’t have much time,” he said, glancing over his shoulder as if someone was chasing him. “We have to leave now, before Alexander comes. I don’t know if he’s threatened you in any way, but I’m here now, okay? I’m here to take you away from all this.”
I stared at him dumbfounded. “Marcus, I’m sitting in this park by myself. If I needed to run, I would have been long gone. Nothing is stopping me from running.”
He shook his head looking almost hysterical at this point, “But you don’t understand, Isabella. Alexander hates me so much, and he’ll use any means to get back at me.”
I lifted an eyebrow. “I know that, that’s why I-”
“No!” Marcus snapped, running a hand through his hair erratically. “I don’t think you know that, okay? He’s cruel and evil, and I need to save you from him. I know he’s probably threatening you, but I can help you. I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure you’re safe, Isabella.”
“Marcus, you don’t understand. I’m here willingly.” I said slowly, trying to get him to understand. “No!” He cut me off, yanking on his hair painfully. “That’s not true, I saw you…in…. in the footage! You were unconscious! He kidnapped you!”
“No! He saved me from that fire!” I shot back, my voice rising, “The same fire you left me to die as you saved Bianca!”
Marcus flinched at my words.
He opened his mouth several times, then he closed it with a shaky sigh.
“Look, I’m sorry for that, Isabella. I really am. But now is really not the best time for us to talk about it. Alexander will be getting here soon and—”

‘No.” I said firmly.
He blinked, then he furrowed his eyebrows. “No?”
I’m not going anywhere with you, Marcus. You need to leave.” I replied.
Marcus stared at me in disbelief. His eyes were wide, and his lips shook.
You don’t mean that,” he whispered. “You’re just confused. He had probably messed with your lead, but it’s okay. I’ll fix it. I’ll fix everything.”
He stepped closer to me, and I quickly rose to my feet.
Marcus. Don’t come near me.”
But he didn’t listen.
He suddenly lunged at me, and grabbed my arm.
We’re leaving,” he said, his voice shaking with panic. “Right now.”
began resisting, fighting against his tight hold on my hand.
‘Let go of me!”
He gripped tighter. “Stop it, Isabella! You don’t know what he’s capable of-”
‘You don’t get to touch me, I snarled.
‘I’m trying to save you!” His voice rose “Stop being difficult-

‘What’s going on here?” A cold, low and dangerous voice growled.
