At the mention, a hole seemed torn through Robert’s chest, pain making it nearly impossible to breathe.
“Robert! That wasn’t pregnancy–it was ascites! Terminal cancer, the tumor pressing on her abdomen. Her body couldn’t even handle fluid drainage.”

Before explanations could finish, Benjamin cut in sharply: “Robert, just admit it.”
“You think Elizabeth is tainted. You refuse to be The Rebound Guy? So you staged this whole act to make me feel guilty, force my regret, and reconcile with her?”
“I’m telling you–impossible!”
As the words fell, Robert couldn’t contain the rage burning in his chest and threw a punch directly at Benjamin.
Benjamin stumbled backward, crashing against the doorframe before snapping back to his senses.
The two men instantly became entangled in a fierce brawl.
“Benjamin, you’re a fucking complete bastard! If you hadn’t pretended to be poor back then, if you’d just stayed by Elizabeth’s side during her hardest times, she might’ve gotten proper treatment.”
“Her life could’ve been saved. You killed her! What right do you have to blame her now?”
Robert bitterly regretted ever stepping aside to let Benjamin have Elizabeth.
She’d fought cancer alone while working herself to the bone. He couldn’t even imagine how excruciating that period must’ve been for her.
