Chapter 10 – Air Away From Jack

The plane finally touched down after fifteen hours of flying at Melbourne Airport, Australia and heaved a sigh of relief as I got down from the flight.

I had enjoyed fifteen hours of a first-class flight, fifteen hours away from Cara’s manipulativ voice, Jack’s mother’s horrible voice, and Jack’s cruel voice.

I breathed deeply as I stood at the arrivals port in the airport. I was finally done with New York and now I could breathe air that isn’t toxic or filled with Jack and his menace.

I pulled out my phone and turned it on just as a series of missed calls and messages came from

Jack.

You bitch, what have you done?’

‘Pushing you off a flight wasn’t enough punishment? I’ll lock you up in a room full of almonds, know you’re allergic to them, you whore!’

How dare you ruin my company?! I’ll make you pay.’

Where are you, Gwen? I’m worried about you.’

‘I’m sorry about our son, I’m sorry I made you sterile. I don’t know what I was thinking. Come home, no man will accept you.’

Bloody damnit, Gwen, come home! You have no one and no money, where the hell are you?!’

Fuck, is it weird that I miss you? Come home, let’s talk about this.’

I’m sorry, Gwen.’

I scoffed, “Pathetic.”

There was a new post on Facebook that I was tagged in. I clicked on it and saw a post Cara had

posted.

‘It’s official. Get your wedding shoes ready! #jacklovescara.”

I liked the post and dropped a comment, “Congratulations, I wish you both happiness.”

Then I blocked both of them and deleted their numbers.

My phone started ringing again and I saw it was an unknown number.

I picked up the call and I heard Jack’s desperate voice.

“Gwen? Are you alright? Where are you?”

“In your entire life, Jack, never call me and when you think of me, have sleepless nights because I will deal with you, asshole!”

I hung up the phone and tossed it into the nearest garbage can then I grabbed my box and walked out.

I saw the name card with my name written on it and I walked up to the man.

“That’s me,” I said.

He bowed, “Boss Ryder has instructed me to bring you back to the villa.”

I nodded as he opened the car door for me and collected my luggage.

I entered the luxurious Lamborghini and relaxed as I poured wine and began sipping. I guess making a deal with the devil wasn’t so bad.

I must have dozed off during the ride because the next time I opened my eyes we were driving into a beautiful gigantic mansion.

The house was nothing compared to Jack’s mansion. It was beautiful and big with intricate flowered designs and filled with ice sculptures of different animals.

The courtyard was airy and sunny and the maids were all sitting down laughing heartily. It felt more like a family house than the house of a mafia lord.

The driver pulled into the driveway and I saw arrays of cars that were all parked there. My car door was opened and a hand extended toward me.

When I stepped out of the car, I came face to face with Ryder Saltzman, Mafia Lord and Jack’s

sworn enemy.

Three years ago he met me at a restaurant in New York when he came for work. That night | saved him from a mudslide.

I even paid for his hospital bills and hotel bills because he had lost his card and everything in

the accident.

Two weeks later he asked me to marry him. He said he’s never met anyone like me and he wanted to spend the rest of his life showering me with treasures for taking care of him.

At that time I didn’t know who he was but I was foolishly in love with Jack and I rejected his proposal.

Ryder pursues me endlessly only for me to almost marry him till that night at the bridge with Jack and everything changed.

I married Jack the following day and told Ryder. Ryder said he’d wait for five years and if I didn’ come to him he would try to forget me.

Three years later and here I am, the same man whom I had rejected was now the one who had rescued me in my darkest hour of need.

“How was your flight, Darling?” he asked me.

I stared at his beautiful face and smiled, “Seeing you again after all these years made the flight

worth it.”

Ryder laughed, “Oh sweetheart, you’ve certainly mastered the art of flirting.”

I chuckled, “It just feels good to be somewhere that Jack doesn’t exist.”

“About Jack, darling, I think you’ll want to join me and watch the evening news. He’s unhinged.”

A smirk formed on my lips as I took his hands, “Are you sure you want us to watch the news, Ryder, or would you rather see me in a wedding dress?”

“Now that’s an interesting proposal, darling, but we both know why you want the wedding dress

to ruin Jack except you don’t need a dress to do that.”

Ryder led me into the villa as the maids greeted me politely.

The moment he turned on the television and I saw the headlines, a wicked smile curved on my lips.
