Chapter 3
Amber’s POV
Grayson casually slung his arm over Piper’s shoulder.
“Let her go. You know how resilient she is. Back when she chased me for three whole years, I gave her nothing but cold looks and harsh words, and she still wouldn’t quit Guess she enjoys the abuse.”
As he spoke, he gave Piper’s arm a squeeze and smirked
“Women are a pain. That’s why I prefer friends like you–less drama.”
Piper immediately giggled and gave her hips an exaggerated wiggle. She poked his chest playfully.
“Hey, I am a woman. Otherwise, how would I be having your baby?”
Grayson scoffed and deliberately hovered his hand near her chest,
“With a chest that flat? You sure about that?”
They both burst into laughter, slamming the door shut behind them.
Suddenly, the world went silent.
All I could hear was the wild pounding of my heart–every beat like a hammer to the chest, rattling through my bones.
The elevator finally arrived. I scrambled inside, pressing the close button again and again.
The doors slowly slid shut… but the elevator didn’t move,
Then my phone rang–Luna Lila.
“Amber,” she said, “I’ve heard all about what happened with Grayson and Piper. And yes, it was wrong of him. I already gave him a good scolding. But you shouldn’t take it too hard. If he still has you in his heart, you two can work through this.”
“Piper said she’s not trying to come between you. Once the baby’s born, you don’t have to worry–I’ll help raise it. Just pretend this never happened.” My lips feit dry. I swallowed hard.
“Luna Lila, I think… it’s best to let it go.”
She didn’t like that. Her tone sharpened immediately.
“Why are you so stubborn? I know you’re just an omega and not on Grayson’s level, but don’t you understand the basics?”
“He made one mistake. He told you the truth. And you want to throw everything away? Don’t you think you’re being a little dramatic?”
Iclenched my phone so tightly my knuckles turned white.
*I’m not being dramatic,” I said. “You’ve always looked down on me for being an omega, for coming from a family that does business with humans. So now, I’ll do what you’ve wanted all along.”
“I‘ step aside. I’ll sover the mate bond. Your son deserves someone better.”
Before she could reply, I ended the call.
Grayson’s parents—and honestly, most of the pack–cared about one thing above all else: Alpha bloodlines.
At every pack gathering, wolves who didn’t know me would smell my scent, then ask, felgning kindness, “Amber, what kind of wolf are you? Which pack are you from? Is that a human scent I detect?”
I would answer honestly–that I’m an omega, and yes, any family has ties to the human workl
Then came the exchanged glances. The sighs.
“An omega? That’ll weaken our park. Our next Alpha can’t come from someone like that‘
And Grayson? He’d just sit there with a faint smile on his face. Never once did he speak up for me. He looked down on me to
still remember the day we found out we were mates
He gave me a slow, disdainful once–over and said, “Amber, I’m an Alpha. My mate should be at least a beta–someone who can match me.” Chapter 3
He wanted to reject me. I think the only reason he didn’t was because I clung to him for three years–and maybe, because the bond made it too hard to fully push me away.
Now, slumped on the cold elevator floor, I could barely breathe.
Time passed. I didn’t know how long.
Finally, the elevator started to move. The doors opened and there he stood, tall and backlit by the hallway light.
I couldn’t see his expression clearly, but I knew he was frowning. He always frowned like that when he saw me hurting.
He stepped forward, brushed a tear from my cheek with the pad of his thumb, and pulled me into his arms.
‘Amber,” he murmured, “don’t ever let yourself fall apart like this again.”
