Chapter 1
During the New Year’s Eve party, my husband Triston Shifflett accidentally put his voice chat on speaker.
It was a childish voice calling for daddy.
Everyone at the banquet turned their gaze towards me and became extremely quiet.
Even waiters slowed down movements slightly.
After all, everyone knew that Triston doted on me and couldn’t bear to see me suffer even a little bit.
But in those eyes, I could see curiosity and sympathy, but not a trace of shock.
I suddenly realized that I was the only one who didn’t know about the existence of this child.
I trembled my lips and subconsciously ran my fingers through my disheveled hair before I asked. “How old is the child?”
When I asked this question, I still had some hope.
However, Triston’s face turned pale, and he hurried to silence his phone.
He ran towards me nervously.
He even closed the door, afraid that I would leave in anger.
In the midst of panic, he accidentally knocked over a waiter’s small cart, creating a mess on the floor, but he didn’t care at all.
I guessed that I already knew the answer.
Tightly holding onto his phone, he firmly gripped my arm with his other hand. “Darling, please listen to me. This was just an
accident…”
The speculation had been completely confirmed.
I stared at this familiar man, who had promised to love me forever, in disbelief.
I felt that I didn’t really know him.
“So, is it really your child?” I asked through gritted teeth.
He looked aside slightly, daring not to look right in my eyes.
We had been together for ten years, and I knew him too well. I could totally understand why he was acting like this.
I glared at him fiercely with tears rolling in my eyes. Suddenly, I stood up and forcefully shook off his hand.
I shouted hoarsely, “How can you explain that?”
I had not taken a few steps when he embraced me from behind, and I felt my neck slightly damp.
I knew he cried.
“Honey, don’t go. I can explain… I really can’t bear to lose you…”
Those words might sound sweet in the past, but now I found them ironic.
I felt sick of him and forcefully broke free from his grip. Then I turned around and walked away without looking back
Triston wanted to chase after me from behind, but his phone rang.
He hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he stopped and answered the phone immediately.
I rushed out of the door in one breath.
