Chapter 3
Kai sat there with his mouth hanging open, unable to speak.[]
I turned and headed for the door, pausing at the threshold: “Oh, and just a heads up–without my stomach remedy recipe, that busted gut of yours won’t last two weeks. Maybe lay off the liquid happiness.“]
Back home, I went straight upstairs and started packing.
Kai got home thirty minutes after me and found me in the bedroom folding clothes into suitcases.
“Phoenix, what are you doing?” His voice carried a note of panic.[]
“Moving back to my parents‘ pláce.” I didn’t look up as I continued packing. “You obviously don’t need me anyway–your little childhood childhood sweetheart can take care of you just fine.“]]
“Come on, stop being dramatic! I’ve explained this a million times–there’s nothing going on between me and Raven!” His voice was getting more and more agitated.[]
“Nothing going on?”
I stopped what I was doing and turned to face him, “Then explain why you deleted your chat history? Why you’ve been meeting up behind my back? If there’s really nothing there, why couldn’t you let me know about it?“]
Kai was struck speechless, his expression growing uglier by the second.[]
“You just don’t trust me!“]]
He suddenly exploded, “Three years of marriage and this is how you see me? I’m nice to someone else for five minutes and you think I’m cheating!“]
He stormed into the living room and started ripping our wedding photos off the wall, tearing them to shreds.]
“If you don’t trust me, why keep this stuff around?“]
Riiip–our wedding portrait split in half.]
He wasn’t done. He kept shredding every photo he could find, screaming as he destroyed them: “You don’t actually love me! Someone who really loved me would trust me no matter what!“]
I watched him have his breakdown in complete silence. Only after he’d destroyed every last photo did I speak.[]
“Kai Hawthorne, thank you for showing me your true colors.“]]
My tone was terrifyingly calm, “Would an innocent person tear up wedding photos because his wife questioned him?“]
He froze, staring at the shredded remains scattered across the floor, finally realizing what he’d done.]
“What you just did gave me my answer.“]
I wheeled my suitcase toward the door, “Kai Hawthorne, consider this official notice–I’m divorcing you.“]

Chapter 3
“No! I won’t agree to it!” His face went white as a sheet.]]
“Won’t agree?” I laughed coldly. “You think you still have a choice in this?“]
I pulled out my phone and opened a folder: “Here’s all the evidence against you, plus the surveillance footage of you tearing up those photos just now. What do you think the judge will decide?“[]
Kai tried to grab my hands: “Phoenix, I lost my temper for a second…”
I slapped him across the face so hard the sound echoed through the living room.
“Don’t touch me. You’re disgusting!“]
I jerked away from him, “You reek of another woman and it makes me want to puke!“[]
He held his cheek, staring at me in disbelief.[]
I backhanded him again: “That one was for your sister. When Raven was bullying her, you told Luna to be the bigger person. Well, now you’re getting smacked around–time for you to be the bigger person.“]
Kai raised his hand like he wanted to hit me
k, but then thought better of it.
Because he knew damn well that if he laid a finger on me, I’d have domestic violence evidence. Not only would I get half his assets, but his reputation would be completely destroyed.]]
More importantly, without my company shares and technical support, Hawthorne Enterprises would be bankrupt within six months.
“Kai Hawthorne, remember this feeling.”
I looked at his swollen cheek with unprecedented satisfaction, “The moment you chose to betray me, you lost me forever. Regret it all you want–too little, too late!”
I dragged my suitcase toward the door.
“Phoenix, where are you going?” He followed me.]
“Home to my parents.“]
I didn’t look back, “When you finally get your head on straight, come find me to sign the divorce papers. Fair warning–my patience has limits!“]
