“Clare, you wanted to see me?” Selina walked in with that same perfect smile, calm and composed like always.
“I need to talk to Jonathan.” Clarissa didn’t bother with small talk. She looked right at her. “Selina, you’ll help me, won’t you?”
Selina’s eyes paused on her for a second. Her voice stayed smooth. “Why do you want to see Mr. Jefferson?”
“I need to get Gregory out of trouble.”
Clarissa’s tone grew tight with worry. “Jonathan’s got him. I don’t know what he plans to do, and I don’t feel right just sitting around. I want to talk to Jonathan and ask him to let Gregory go.”
“But I heard you were just downstairs begging not to end the engagement,” Selina said, her tone still even. “You said marrying Jonathan wasn’t such a bad idea.”
“I only said that so I could get a chance to see him.” Clarissa answered quickly. “Gregory and I have been together for years. He nearly died trying to save me. I can’t just let him suffer and do nothing.” He
She sat on the edge of the bed, clearly frustrated. “If you don’t want to help, then fine. I’ve done what I can. If something happens to Gregory, my hands are clean.”
Selina kept her eyes on Clarissa, reading her face. She was wondering how much of that story was true. However, there was a nugget of fact hiding in that pile.
Clarissa had been with Gregory for years. No way she’d give that up so easily. She probably still loved him.
And if she ran to Jonathan to beg for Gregory, it might finally kill whatever feelings Jonathan had left for her.
“Alright, Clare. I’ll help you,” Selina agreed with a soft voice. “Gregory grew up with us. I don’t want to see him hurt either. Just talk to Mr. Jefferson and ask him to let Gregory go. In return, you’ll marry him.”
Selina went to Penelope and asked to take Claxissa out shopping. Penelope didn’t question it. She liked seeing the girls spend. time together and trusted Selina with everything. She gave them permission right away.
Once they left the Chandler Mansion, Clarissa headed straight to the Jefferson Group.
Jonathan had been buried in work lately. He often didn’t even come home, so catching him at the office was her best chance.
As she stepped into the building, the two receptionists at the front desk stopped chatting and froze like statues. Their smiles vanished. One of them gasped, “M–Miss Chandler!”
Why was she here again?
This woman was a menace!
Was she going to tear the place apart like last time?
“Don’t panic. I’m just here to see Jonathan,” Clarissa said gently.
However, that didn’t help at all. One of the girls looked like her knees might give out.
Clarissa showing up meant chaos.
Either she’d flip out on Mr. Jefferson again, or he’d take it out on everyone around him. And lately, his mood had been a nightmare. They were barely surviving the tension as it was.
Clarissa didn’t say anything else. She went straight for the elevator and pressed the button for the twenty–eighth floor.

Clarissa had no idea the office chat had blown up the second she stepped in. She walked straight to the top floor, headed for the executive suite on the 28th floor.
