“Clare was really upset. Selina said. She said you only ever take Chloe’s side.”

“She gets jealous that easily?” Gregory’s tone turned sour. Deep down, he still believed Clarissa loved him–so much so that she’d even get jealous over something like this. Since when did she become such a spoiled princess? She actually went so far as to have his sister thrown in jail, and even kicked him out of the hospital, humiliating him in front of everyone.
“She still has feelings for you. If you coax her a little, she might let Chloe out of the police station.”
Tm supposed to coax her?” Gregory gritted his teeth, his voice turning cold.
Clarissa’s the one being completely unreasonable. She had the nerve to throw my sister in jail, then kick me out of the hospital and humiliate me—and now I’m expected to sweet–talk her? I’d only ever treated her too well, and that’s exactly why she’d gotten so spoiled.
“For Chloe’s sake, just humor her a little. Chloe’s still in lockup–you need to get her out first.”
Gregory’s expression turned even darker. He had already sent someone to check with the police earlier, and the only way to get Chloe out was to pay over a million. But over a million? He couldn’t possibly come up with that kind of money.
Clarissa clearly loved him enough to even get jealous over his sister. Fine. Fine–he’d swallow his pride and humor her. just this once.
Elsewhere. George was visiting the construction site with his secretary.
He paused for a moment, thinking back to what Clarissa had said earlier. Then he turned to the secretary and told her to arrange for some bodyguards to meet them there.
The secretary’s grip on her documents tightened slightly, their eyes flickering. “Mr. Chandler, we’ve already had the site cleared out. There’s really no need for bodyguards. Besides, the media might show up later–bringing too much security will just draw attention. It won’t look good.”
“It’s fine. George said with a faint smile. Just get a few over here. My sister’s really worried about me.”
As soon as he mentioned Clarissa, the ice in his usually cold, stoic eyes softened. This was the first time since she returned to the family that she’d shown concern for him–and he was genuinely happy about it.
Even though he doubted there would be any actual danger, he figured it wouldn’t hurt to bring a few guards along.
“Understood.” Seeing that he was set on it, the secretary had no choice but to agree.
George lowered his gaze to the three gift boxes in his arms. The corners of his cool, thin lips curled slightly.
These are all mine. Those two rascals won’t get anything!
Back in her room, Clarissa tried texting Jonathan again, but all she got was another giant exclamation mark.
What a pain. That jerk’s so hard to please. He even accepted my gift and still wouldn’t add me on WhatsApp.
Just as she was sulking, her phone suddenly buzzed. Clarissa perked up instantly.
Jonathan?
Excited, she looked down at her phone–only for her smile to vanish.
‘Clare, I know you’ve done all this because you love me deeply. You’re just starved for affection.
Clarissa stared. A brick has surely fallen on his head!
I’m not siding with Chloe. I like you. Chloe’s still in jail; she’s just a girl–she can’t handle it in there. Please let her out.

“You’re going to be her sister–in–law someday. Don’t make things so ugly.”

Clarissa rolled her eyes, her face blank. Sister–in–law, really? This guy sure thinks highly of himself. I’d already kicked him out of the hospital, and he still thinks I’m into him?!
‘Chloc owes my family a million. Pay it off, and she’ll walk.
The moment Clarissa sent the text. Gregory fired back.
‘Clare, you didn’t use to be like this. You used to be sweet and obedient, and you always cared about Chloe the most. Hearing you say this now… I’m really disappointed.”
‘Pay off the million. Save your sister
‘Clare, why is it all about money with you now? You’ve really let me down.”
Oh, so you’re too stingy to save your sister?
‘Clare, do our feelings mean nothing to you? Have you forgotten how I once ran into a burning building to save your life?”
Yeah, but you still won’t spend the money to save your sister.
There was silence on Gregory’s end.
