Darell hesitated for a second before smiling and stroking my hair, “You’re already a mom. How come you’re still as willful as a kid? You went through a lot when giving birth, not to mention the pain in your leg. It breaks my heart to see you suffer; I can’t even sleep at night. Violet, humor me, will you? I got to take care of our baby.
“I’ve added honey to the water. It’s very sweet. Come here. I’ll feed you.”
I shouted angrily in my heart, “No! That’s not our baby! That’s yours and Kara’s!”
He placed the pills next to my lips, not giving me a chance to say not again.
I felt that the blood in my body went cold. Closing my eyes, I swallowed the pills without having the honey water.
No matter how sweet it was, it couldn’t change the fact that Darell was a cold–hearted monster!
The pills kicked in soon. I felt that my abdomen was burning and was cut open by someone with a knife, and soon, blood oozed out from between my legs.
“Violet? What’s wrong?”
Darell called the doctor over, and I was on the verge of passing out.
In a daze, I heard the doctor say, “Mr. Bourn, Mrs. Bourn’s uterus has been corroded. She can never be a mother again.”

Darell let out a long sigh of relief.
When I came around, he was looking at me, looking deeply in pain, and even his eyes were red. “Violet, the doctor said you had a sudden. postpartum hemorrhage. You can never get pregnant again.
“Promise me you won’t be upset, OK? At least we have Jimmy now. I’m sure he’ll love you and take care of you when he grows up.”
Jimmy?
He had already named Kara’s baby?
Darell asked the nurse to leave and fetched some warm water to wipe clean my body himself, though he was a neat freak.
He told me his mom wanted to see her grandson, so she had taken Jimmy
away.

After he finished taking care of everything, it was already late at night.
I looked at his face, which bore some fatigue, and forced a smile. “I’m OK now. It’s been a long day for you, too. Go get some rest.”
He kissed my forehead. “OK. Wake me up if anything. I’ll take you to pick Jimmy up tomorrow. From now on, we’ll be a happy family of three.”
After he slept soundly, I picked up his phone carefully,
To show how loyal he was to me, he had never locked his phone.
But little did I know that his phone had two systems.
The password to switch systems was Kara’s birthday.
After I switched the system, I saw the wallpaper–a photo he and Kara

Kara was his only contact on WhatsApp. As I clicked on their chat history, a photo of Kara holding the baby stung my eyes.

“Darell, see? Our baby boy is so cute.. I bet he looks as handsome as you when he grows up.” she texted.
The baby looked exactly the same as the one Darell held in his arms.
The more I scrolled through their chat, the more my heart sank.
During those eight months that I was pregnant, Darell had always been on business trips. His days with me were only a handful.
I didn’t want to hold up his work, so I always went to the hospital for prenatal check–ups alone while enduring the discomfort of morning sickness.
It wasn’t until now that I realized his so–called business trips were merely his excuse to be with Kara during her pregnancy.
There were at least 10,000 photos, recording Kara’s entire pregnancy.
Darell cooked for her every day. He always took a stroll with her, shopped with her, and even used his hands to hold her vomit when she was having morning sickness.
He was right there with her for every prenatal check–up, and he looked at her with deep affection as if she were the most precious treasure in the world.
I begged Darell a lot of times, wanting him to name our baby.
It always took him ages to reply to me. He always said things like, “Violet, name doesn’t mean anything. It’s just how people call you. Get

one yourself. I’m busy. Why don’t we wait till the baby is born?”
Yet, right after Kara was pregnant, he had already come up with at least. 100 names for their baby.
“Kara, what do you think of the name ‘Alec“? It’s quite popular these days.
“Or Richard? It represents power and bravery.
“Well… Forget it. Maybe we should call him Jimmy. It’s catchy and cute.”
After every prenatal check–up, he’d give her a gift, which was either luxury jewelry or a limited sports car.
“Kara, you nailed another check–up. We got to celebrate.”
