Aliana was immobilized by numerous hands as the physician positioned the ultrasound device. She shut her eyes in defeat, accepting her powerless state.
The chief surgeon arrived tardily, his demeanor as frosty as his reputation. Once the Davidson family’s doctor, he was known for his unquestioning compliance.
However, when a patient failed to return for a post–abortion check–up, he felt compelled to inquire about her well–being.
“Mr. Davidson, how is your wife faring? Was the embryo preserved?”
Emmett was paralyzed with shock, his drenched attire clinging to him as if trying to drag him down. His legs wobbled, and he struggled to breathe.
With a quavering voice, he exclaimed, “What did you just say? What embryo?!”
The doctor, startled by Emmett’s response, realized his error too late. Left with no choice but to reveal the truth, he paused before speaking.
“It’s about Athena. During her last fainting spell at home, I esa her and found she was expecting. However, there were signs of a potential miscarriage. I administered progesterone. Has she been taking care of herself?”
Emmett’s world spun, his vision blurring as darkness encroached.
Athena… pregnant… struggling to maintain the pregnancy…
A deluge of memories washed over him. He recalled Athena’s hospitalization, her casual mentions of feeling unwell, but now he recognized the signs.
At the time, however, he had been too engrossed in his affair with Aliana, neglecting Athena completely.
The realization struck him; their child had existed, if only briefly.
Emmett’s chest constricted with agonizing pain. He clutched at his heart, his voice trembling as he struggled to speak. “Bring me her medical records.
The doctor hesitated, sensing the urgency, but ultimately complied.
Emmett’s wet clothes still dripped water, When he removed his hand, he shook violently, staring at his soaked palm before letting out a bitter chuckle.
How naive. How absurd… He had once believed that standing in the rain was his punishment.
But Athena had suffered alone, her pregnancy a silent struggle, fighting to protect their baby.

Her pain had been infinitely worse than his!
No wonder Athena had left him. She had been utterly, completely disillusioned with him.
Overwhelmed by grief, Emmett’s gaze fell on nearby medical instruments. In a rash moment, he seized a surgical scissor and plunged it into his palm.
“Emmett!”
The sudden action jolted everyone into motion. Forgetting Aliana, they rushed to stop him.
In the chaos, Aliana attempted to escape, but Emmett kicked her back without hesitation. “Ignore me!” he barked, his voice icy. “Remove this woman! Call the other doctors!”
Aliana screamed, but there was no escape. She was forced back down, helpless.
The doctor, fearing further disaster, wasted no time. He swiftly resumed the procedure. Irritated by Aliana’s shrieks, Emmett pressed his bleeding hand over her mouth, silencing her with an iron grip.
“Be quiet!” he snarled, his eyes glacial with malice. “If you keep making noise, it won’t just be an abortion.”
His words were razor–sharp, a threat laced with ruthlessness that chilled the room.
“Athena left with my child. Why should yours be allowed to remain?”
Disgust washed over him as he recalled the sweet promises he had made to this woman. Every word now felt like venom.
“Wait,” The doctor’s voice cut through the tension, his eyes re–examining the ultrasound images.
“Mr. Davidson, there’s no evidence of embryo implantation.”
Emmett’s heart lurched. “So, you mean…”
“She’s not pregnant,” the doctor confirmed.
Aliana closed her eyes in despair, utterly defeated.
A thunderous realization seemed to crash through Emmett’s mind, and his expression darkened. The fury simmering beneath his skin threatened to erupt.
