This was the result of her insatiable greed and self–inflicted ruin.
I visited her in prison once. Initially, she looked hopeful and obsequious, but as soon as she saw it was me, her expression immediately turned to disdain.
“Why is it you?”
I calmly sat down, “Because the Grants no longer wish to see you. You made them lose their biological daughter forever, and I, as your biological mother, had to see you.”
“I don’t want you, you wretched mother! My mother is the wealthy Mrs. Grant!”
“Clearly, I am your daughter. Why are you helping Isabella against me?”
I smiled faintly, “I don’t want a criminal daughter either!”
“If it weren’t for your greed and the way you ostracized Isabella, I wouldn’t have treated you like this. It’s best if you two can coexist peacefully.”
“But since you wronged and ostracized Isabella, I had no choice but to protect her.”
“Think carefully about how you squandered such a good hand.”
I ignored Evelyn Grant’s shouts and walked out of the prison.
Isabella took her college entrance exams and got admitted to a prestigious university far from
home.
After discussing with Isabella, we decided to leave this city full of disputes and settle in the city where her university is located.
With the initial one million given by the Grants, our living conditions improved significantly.
The Grant family found out about our booked tickets, and just before leaving, the once successful but now seemingly much older Grants came to our door.
They still wanted to persuade Isabella to reconsider.
I went out for a walk to leave them time alone together.
After talking for an hour, the Grants came out with tears streaming down their faces, eyes full of unmistakable regret.
“Mom, let’s go!”
Isabella said with a bright smile, dragging her suitcase.
“Our happy life as mother and daughter is just beginning!”
