Chapter 16
Then, Dylan’s words slammed down like a heavy weight, leaving Alexander speechless.
The standoff persisted until Mrs. Li finally pulled Alexander into the car. Before leaving, she stole a glance at Jennifer, only to find her deliberately looking away.
The shop quickly filled with onlookers eager to witness the drama.
Jennifer apologized to each customer, hoping the commotion hadn’t ruined their meals.
“You should go comfort Tiantian. I’ll handle things out here.”
Sensing her distress, Dylan gently nudged her toward the back room.
Watching Dylan walk out, warmth flooded Jennifer’s heart.
He returned only when the noise outside subsided.
“Thank you.”
The moment he entered, Jennifer threw her arms around him.
Dylan froze in surprise, letting her cling to his waist, her face buried against his abdomen. His heart hammered wildly against his ribs.
“No need for thanks.”
He softly smoothed her hair.

Just then, Tiantian bounded in and wrapped herself around Dylan too.
Trapped in their double embrace, he chuckled softly. “If you keep this up, my back will ache.”
Jennifer immediately pulled away, flushed with embarrassment.
Sunlight stretched their three silhouettes long across the floor.
In that quiet intimacy, the seeds of something deeper took root.
“Dylan… could we try being together?”
Leaning against the wall, Jennifer’s tentative question left her entire face.
crimson.
Dylan paused, then turned to her with a bright laugh. “Why should you ask first? Will you try being with me?”
Tiantian cheered, “Say yes, sis! Then I’ll have an aunt!”
Jennifer lowered her gaze, then met Dylan’s eyes steadily. “Yes,” she clearly enunciated.
Bathed in sunlight, Dylan pressed her against the wall and kissed her deeply.
Their shadows merged and lengthened, capturing the afternoon’s sweetest
moment.
Alexander returned home seething. He couldn’t believe another man stood beside Jennifer after mere months apart.
For days, furious memories sent him smashing things in the living room.

Though frightened, Mrs. Li couldn’t stop him.
Alexander realized his feelings too late. He’d convinced himself he never loved Jennifer.
Even now, he believed he’d merely blinded himself.
He pounded the table weakly, desperate to release his frustration.
Mrs. Li brought out washed oranges. “Mr. Smith, if you sincerely apologize to Jennifer, she might reconsider.”
“Apologize to her?” Alexander scowled. “After she left without a word?”
“But don’t you want her back? Perhaps if Nicole and her son apologize too….. she might return.” Mrs. Li spoke uncertainly, though she longed for Jennifer’s return far more than Alexander did.
If she doesn’t return, her wealthy mother–in–law’s life will become a meaningless existence.
Alexander chuckled coldly while rubbing his temples, calling his driver. “Send someone to bring Nicole and her son here.”
The moment he hung up, he exhaled deeply.
When Nicole and Edward were brought back, their hair was disheveled.
Alexander snorted derisively at their appearance–this was the price they deserved to pay.
“Edward will accompany me to apologize to Jennifer.
If she chooses to forgive you, I’ll let you both leave.”
Nicole’s lashes fluttered as she contemplated silently.
“Edward, just apologize to her.”
