Chapter 18
A light rain began to fall intermittently, and Edward stood beside him. holding an umbrella.
Jennifer turned off the shop lights, drew the curtains of the floor–to- ceiling window, and headed straight upstairs without even glancing at Alexander outside.
Back in the room, Dylan lay on the bed telling Tiantian a bedtime story.
The two had been living together for a while, so compared to the initial awkwardness, Jennifer felt much more relaxed now.
Since moving in with Dylan, the loneliness she once felt had completely vanished.
Wasn’t this the life Jennifer had always dreamed of?
Stable, peaceful, and secure–no more lying back–to–back in silence at night.
Instead, they sat cross–legged on the bed for hours, whispering about future plans.
Tiantian sprawled nearby with picture books, sometimes crawling over to have Jennifer coax her to sleep.
After Jennifer showered, Dylan was already asleep beside her.
His breathing steady, she tucked him in.
She turned on the hallway light and saw Alexander still kneeling outside.
Chapter 18
The car must’ve taken Edward home, since it was gone now.
She hated Alexander–his lies, the pain he caused. She cherished her new life, and for him, only disappointment remained.
The next morning, Jennifer rose early to see Dylan off on his business. trip.
Before Tiantian woke, she started packing his clothes.
Dylan, still groggy, pulled Jennifer into his arms after washing up.
He noticed his clothes neatly ironed at the foot of the bed.
“You’ve worked hard.”
Dylan ruffled her hair.
He took his luggage and kissed Jennifer’s forehead.
Tiantian shyly looked away.
“Get going! It’s late.”
Jennifer urged, lifting Tiantian from the bed
They got into the car, settling Tiantian in the back seat and buckling her
- in.
Jennifer sat in the passenger seat, heart fluttering as she watched Dylan’s profile.
At the airport, Dylan unloaded the luggage while Tiantian stayed in the back seat with her picture book.
Jennifer took the keys, gazing at him tenderly.
“Stay safe. Call me if anything happens.”
Dylan leaned down, brushing her hair aside.
Jennifer pressed close, then reluctantly pulled back. “Take care. Tiantian and I will wait for you.”
Dylan wiped her tear and smiled at Tiantian. “Listen to your aunt, okay?”
Tiantian nodded from the car.
Dylan walked inside, his figure stretching, blurring in Jennifer’s sight until he vanished around the corner–turning once to wave.
For the first time, Jennifer felt the ache of parting.
In that moment, she knew she had hope, an anchor.
And a home.
Driving back with Tiantian, she spotted Alexander’s car parked outside the shop again.
Jennifer just found him tiresome. Silently gripping Tiantian’s hand, she headed inside.
“Jennifer.” Alexander stopped her.
“What do you want?” Jennifer snapped.
Edward, standing nearby, looked at Tina and wanted to take her hand.
“What are you trying to do?”
Jennifer shielded Tina behind her, but Edward kept saying sorry.
Chapter 11
“You’re so rude, I don’t want to play with you.”
Tina looked askance at Edward, occasionally making faces at him.
Alexander stepped forward, looking at her, “I was wrong before, but believe me, I really love you.
Can you give me a chance? Come home with me?
I’ve already kicked Nicole and Edward out. Can we just live well together from now on?”
Jennifer glanced at him, her eyes full of disgust.
“Alexander, you really disappoint me.
How can I forget the hurt and neglect you put me through?
I’ve clearly decided to start a new life, why do you still come to pester
me?”
“I just want to win you back. I don’t think we should be like this.”
“We shouldn’t be like this, but we are.
Now I’m very happy, and I hope you won’t bother me again.”
Jennifer spoke resolutely, unwilling to stay.
Alexander kept pressing forward, pestering her step by step. Just as he was about to drag Jennifer away, Tina bit him.
“Ah!”
Alexander let go in pain, not expecting the child to be so strong.
“Alexander, there’s no future for us.

Because my heart has already died once for you, and I won’t repeat that mistake. Please take care of yourself.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she left Alexander standing there alone.
