Chapter 1
The day Jaxon Crawford proposed to me, his first love, Helen Sullivan, had just gotten divorced.
I reached out to him, but he suddenly shoved my hand away. My heart broke as I watched him rush off after her.
Later, he came back with a bouquet of roses, and got down on one knee again, his face slightly flushed.
From then on, he treated me with incredible tenderness.
Two months later, I was expecting.
I believed I’d finally found happiness. However, the gravidity came with devastating news.
Doctors found late–stage stomach cancer. I had only eight months left to
live.
While I planned to keep my illness a secret and have the baby, I accidentally heard Jaxon talking with his friend.
“Jaxon, are you truly going to trust that fortune teller? Do you want to use the flesh from Eloise’s face and her baby’s placenta as medicine for Helen?
“Have you lost your mind? How could such ridiculous folk healing possibly fix Helen’s legs?” His friend sounded shocked.
“Whether it works or not, I have to try!” Jaxon’s words were cold and chilling. “If Eloise cooperates, I’ll take care of her forever.”
My chest felt as if crushed by enormous hands, the agony nearly choking

Chapter 1
“Jaxon, have you thought it through? That’s your first baby with Eloise! Is it worth it for such a backstabbing woman who abandoned you when things got tough?” Liam Ferguson frowned tightly, thinking Jaxon had gone insane.
“Stop it, Liam. My decision is final. I must heal Helen’s legs!” Jaxon rubbed his face in frustration, his voice growing louder.
“I can have more babies later. But if Helen never walks again, it’ll be the end! No matter how ridiculous this treatment sounds, I’m attempting it.
“Don’t argue anymore. We’ve been buddies for years. If you won’t help me, at least don’t interfere.” Jaxon’s gaze carried a hint of warning.
Liam’s expression instantly darkened. His family had always relied on the Crawford family. He was powerless to intervene and wouldn’t dare try.
The room went quiet.
I stood outside the door, clutching the gravidity report with trembling fingers.
Tears had already clouded my vision, and my heart felt sliced by a razor blade. The suffering was so intense I could barely breathe.
Eventually, I ran away.
On my way back to the villa, tears streamed down continuously. The intense emotions caused mild stomach pain, though I barely noticed it. I moved like a zombie, completely numb.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed.
It was Jaxon.
“Eloise, where are you?” His voice remained as caring as always. Yet it only made me cry harder.

Chapter 1
I choked back my weeping and told him where I was.
“Stay put. I’m coming to get you.”
“Alright.”
Ten minutes later, a loud car horn blared. A black SUV was speeding directly at me.
Through the bright headlights, I recognized a familiar person. He was one of Jaxon’s regular bodyguards.
Was he planning to kill me for Helen’s sake? My already shattered heart broke once more.
I shut my eyes hopelessly, ready to die.
