Chapter 4
I sent the message, but it was rejected.
I didn’t care. If he wanted to reject it, fine. As long as I send him the divorce papers, that’s enough.
Just as I was almost home, Cecilia messaged me. I glanced at it and immediately frowned.
“Sorry, Jenny. I left some stuff in your car. I’ll cover the cleaning fee.”
She even sent a photo.
The most eye–catching thing was a few used condoms, and there were some strange stains on the car seat too.
If this had been in the past, I would’ve been heartbroken, made a scene, and demanded an explanation from Ashton.
But now, I just felt disgusted.
Ashton actually did that kind of thing in my car.
I held back my anger and listed the car on a second–hand platform.
When I got home, Hugo was already there. He had just gotten off a flight and looked a bit tired. But the moment he saw me, his eyes lit up just like before–bright and puppy–like.
All the gloom that Ashton had brought me vanished.
Hugo stayed at my place for two days. My mom grew more and more fond of him and decided to arrange a five–day trip before the wedding.
Ashton and Cecilia were also part of this trip–because my mom was trying to set them up.
The moment Ashton saw Hugo, he raised an eyebrow without meaning to.
He thought I had brought someone just to spite him.
So he pulled me aside and said nonchalantly, “Jenny, you’re still so childish. Do you really think bringing some random guy on a trip will
make me jealous? You should really learn from Cecilia. She’s much more. mature than you.”
I ignored him.
Ashton seemed quite pleased with this trip. The entire time, he stayed close to Cecilia, leaving me far behind.
Even at night, he shared a room with Cecilia.
When the room keys were being handed out, he gave one to me and one to Hugo.
“Jenny, the hotel didn’t have any extra rooms. We’re uncle and niece–it’s not appropriate for us to share a room. Hugo is a guest, and it wouldn’t be right for him to stay with me either.
“Cecilia is an old friend of mine. It’s only natural we share a room.”
I didn’t argue. I just recorded everything he said and sent it to the divorce lawyer.
The next morning, I took photos of the marks all over Cecilia’s body and sent those too–as evidence of Ashton’s infidelity during the marriage.
Two days later, we headed to the next travel destination..
But on the way, we got into a car accident. Hugo was in the front

passenger seat, and the three of us were in the back.
Without hesitation, Ashton shielded Cecilia with his body in the instant the accident occurred. When the car stopped rolling, he carried her out and ran–without even glancing at me.
My leg was fractured, and the car reeked of gasoline.
At my most helpless moment, it was Hugo who kicked open the warped car door and pulled me out just as the car exploded.
He shielded me with his body, yet I was still injured.
When we reached a safe area, Ashton finally came looking for me.
Seeing my injuries, he felt so guilty he couldn’t even meet my eyes.
“I’m sorry, Jenny. I thought you had already escaped.
“Cecilia is physically weak and has panic disorder–if she had an episode, it could’ve been really dangerous. But you’re different. You’re a sprinting champion. I was sure you’d make it out before the explosion.”
Then he saw Hugo, who had been staying by my side, holding me gently around the waist, supporting my weight entirely.
For a moment, his expression went blank–then his eyes turned red.
Pointing at Hugo, he snapped, “Who is he? Jenny, how dare you let him touch your waist?!”
