Chapter 5
I was already completely disappointed in Ashton and didn’t want to talk to
him.
I just wanted the doctor to check Hugo’s wound as soon as possible.
But Ashton held onto me and wouldn’t let me go.
Hugo knew about my relationship with Ashton–he had seen everything that happened over the past five days.
So at this moment, he also felt it wasn’t worth it for me.
“Who am I? I’m Jenny’s fiancé!
“Ashton! Aren’t you her uncle?! Why did you abandon her the moment the car accident happened, even though you were the closest to her?!”
Ashton opened his mouth but couldn’t explain.
I didn’t want to say more to him and got in the ambulance with Hugo.
After staying in the hospital for a week, in two more days, it would be Ashton’s birthday, and I insisted on marrying Hugo on that day.
My mom couldn’t persuade me otherwise, so she had to agree.
Ashton had been trying to apologize to me these past few days, but I avoided him with all sorts of excuses.
My mom also blamed him for running off and abandoning me on the day of the car accident.
So up until his birthday, he and I hadn’t seen each other once.
Chapter 5
At the birthday party, Ashton was certain I would show up.
So he had already prepared the gift I’d always wanted–a pair of luxury wedding rings. He had carefully wrapped them and kept them close to him, just waiting for me to show up and surprise me.
But he waited for a long time and still didn’t see me.
Instead, my mom brought him to the hotel.
Ashton thought it was a birthday surprise from me.
He straightened his clothes and pushed open the heavy hotel doors solemnly and expectantly.
But what he saw was me in a wedding dress, standing on the beautifully decorated wedding stage, taking the box with the wedding rings from a flower girl.
My mom wore the corsage that symbolized the mother of the bride, beaming with joy as she spoke.
“Ashton, is this birthday gift surprising or not? Jenny specifically chose to get married today, saying she wants to pass the bouquet to you.
“You two–uncle and niece–have such a good relationship.”
Ashton’s eyes widened.
He did something that shocked everyone.
Just as Hugo and I were about to exchange rings, Ashton suddenly rushed onto the stage and knocked them out of our hands.
He shouted in disbelief, “Jenny, are you crazy?! You’re my wife! We’ve already gotten married!”

The whole room gasped.
The guests, who all knew my family’s situation, started whispering among themselves.
“Wasn’t Ashton into Cecilia? How did he end up with his niece? This is outrageous.”
Ashton heard the murmurs from the crowd, and his face turned pale.
He clearly realized that in his impulsiveness, he had said something serious.
Some guests had already raised their phones to start recording.
I bent down, picked up the ring that had fallen to the floor, handed it to Hugo, signaling him to continue the ceremony, and told the sound technician to play more cheerful music.
The host had never seen someone crash a wedding like this and didn’t know what to say for a moment.
I extended my hand once more toward Hugo.
Ashton stood to the side; his face was dark. He grabbed my hand, forcibly pressed it down, and said in a tone that was neither too loud nor too soft.
“Jenny, what kind of trick are you playing this time?! Come with me. I have something to say to you!” I didn’t want to go, and in front of everyone, he couldn’t force me. He could only lower his voice and try to persuade me as gently as possible.
“Jenny, I know you were wronged in that car accident. If something’s bothering you, you should talk to me. How could you marry someone else? Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is for me?”
By the end, his emotions became a bit agitated.

I took the microphone, making sure my voice could be heard throughout the hotel so everyone could hear what I had to say.
“Ashton, I’m marrying the person I want. How could this embarrass you?
“You say I’m your wife, but did we ever get a marriage certificate? Did we ever have a wedding? This wedding dress is the first time I’m wearing it!
“After living over 20 years, I only now realize that weddings can be so lively.”
Ashton stared at me blankly.
A trace of guilt appeared in his eyes.
