Two hours later, I sat in a café across from my lawyer friend, Callum Dorian
After carefully treating the scrape on my palm, he said thoughtfully, “While preparing the divorce case materials these past few days, I accidentally discovered something, but…”
I understood his hesitation and nodded calmly. “I’m fine. Send it over.”
My phone quickly received a video file.
I clicked play–it was hotel surveillance footage showing a familiar figure walking out of a room.
Just then, Leon’s call came through. I hung up casually, but he kept calling back.
I wasn’t planning to answer, but then he sent two text messages.

[Julia, answer the phone!]
So when he called again, I picked up.
He shouted, “Julia, what’s with the ashes in that box?!
I kept my voice calm. “It looks like you’ve met the baby. Now, let’s talk about breaking the mate bond.”
On the other end, Leon’s phone clattered to the floor.
He scrambled to pick it up, his voice trembling. “Are you saying these ashes… are our baby?”
Emma screamed beside him, throwing the box to the ground in horror.
Leon’s voice turned sharp. “Who told you to throw it away?“.
Emma was stunned, then said pitifully, “I… I didn’t realize it was actually ashes. My hand slipped…”
She paused, her voice heavy with tears. “Leon, don’t yell at me. I’m scared…”

Callum, sitting across from me, was focused on typing. Seeing me hang up, he pushed his laptop toward me. “The mate bond dissolution papers are almost ready. Take a look and see if anything needs changing”
Callum was my junior from university, famous throughout school as a top student, and in recent years had become a sought–after criminal defense attorney.
I had originally wanted him to help me find a capable lawyer for my divorce case, but he volunteered to take my case personally.
Knowing his abilities, I didn’t refuse.
The dissolution papers were just the first step–I was already prepared to file for a contested mate bond termination.
I understood Leon’s arrogance. If I proposed breaking the mate bond, he would feel humiliated and make things difficult for me demanding I grovel and sign an unfair agreement.

I put the still–warm dissolution papers in my bag and got into Callum’s car.
At Leon’s company, the receptionist was a new girl. When I said I wanted to go to the Alpha CEO’s office, she checked the appointment schedule and said seriously, “I’m sorry. Alpha Lean is busy right now and isn’t seeing any non–scheduled visitors.”
I was hesitating whether to call when someone tapped my shoulder.
“Julia”
I turned around.
It was my former colleague from the legal department, Mia.
