Left Out in Their Eyes 12

Chapter 12

The direct flight to the Netherlands was delayed due to weather and didn’t take off until the early hours of the next morning.

Elizabeth sat by the window, watching the city gradually disappear below.

Those familiar landscapes slowly shrank until she could no longer see them.

All she could see now were endless mountains and clouds.

As the plane climbed higher, Elizabeth finally felt that she had truly left.

This was the first time in her life she had traveled to a foreign country alone.

This was a life plan the old her had never imagined, requiring courage she had always lacked.

Elizabeth often thought that if she hadn’t lost her memory this time, she might still be trapped in the prison she had built for herself.

But then again, maybe only after changing could she realize that letting go wasn’t as painful as she’d thought.

After learning that the people she loved truly didn’t love her back, she chose to leave peacefully.

Whether it was Sebastian or her parents, Elizabeth no longer held any expectations.

Expectations only led to disappointment, so she simply wouldn’t have any.

Unexpectedly, this choice brought her no pain or regret-only relief remained in her heart.

And some expectations that weren’t intense, but burned brighter with time.

Under the influence of these thoughts, much of the gloom in Elizabeth’s heart dissipated.

She took out her phone and looked at some tourist attractions she had bookmarked earlier, planning where to start her adventure.

Before she knew it, the plane had landed.

The cabin doors slowly opened, and Elizabeth took a deep breath, dragging her suitcase toward the baggage claim.

The long flight had left her tired, causing her to stumble slightly and her suitcase to slam into the leg of a man beside her.

“I’m so sorry!”

Elizabeth hurriedly looked up to apologize, and the moment she saw the man’s face, her breath caught.

The man was tall and well-built, with deep-set eyes and a gentle smile playing at the corners of his mouth, radiating an aura of elegant composure.

He was strikingly handsome-the kind of good-looking that was impossible to forget.

“No problem at all.”

The man gentlemanly bent down to help steady her suitcase.

Elizabeth thanked him and quickly grabbed her luggage before hurrying away.

Walking out of the airport, a wave of warm air hit her face, bringing her back to reality.

She had truly left everything behind completely. For a moment, her heart filled with relief.

Her phone rang timely-it was a call from Zoe Lancaster.

“Elizabeth, why did you suddenly go abroad? Did something happen?”

Her friend’s anxious voice came through the phone. “I saw your location was abroad on Instagram – it scared me!”

possible.”

The other end fell into brief silence, then came Zoe’s incredulous voice: “But didn’t you love him the most? How did you suddenly…”

“That was all in the past.”

Elizabeth smiled bitterly, Sebastian’s tender gaze toward Clarissa flashing through her mind.

“The person he loves is Clarissa. I don’t want to force a meaningless marriage anymore. After all these years, I’ve finally figured it out-I should live for myself for once.”

“The last time I saw Sebastian, I suddenly felt nothing at all. Neither love nor hate-I’ve learned to let go. He doesn’t love me, that’s a fact. His heart belongs to someone else, and I bless them. I accept this imperfect ending and forgive my formerly obsessive self.”

Zoe sighed: “I knew that Sebastian didn’t know how to cherish you. But it’s good-only by leaving the wrong person can you meet the right one.”

“Do you remember our old agreement? You’d come help me with my company. I just opened a company here and I’m short a reliable general manager. How about coming to help me? With your abilities, you’d definitely manage the company perfectly.”

Elizabeth was stunned.

Once, for Sebastian’s sake, she had given up her career dreams, content to be a wife who supported her husband and raised children.

Now, hearing her friend’s offer, her heart stirred with interest.

She had originally planned to travel abroad to relax and enjoy herself, but work was calling to her now.

She did have some concerns though-after all, times were changing, and she hadn’t been in touch with this industry she loved most for a long time.

“Zoe, are you serious?” She gripped her phone tighter.

“Of course! I’ve wanted to poach you for ages. If you agree, you can start work tomorrow.”

Zoe’s voice was excited. “There are so many opportunities for development here. With your skills, you’ll make it big in no time.”

Hearing her friend’s confidence, Elizabeth took a deep breath.

She had once thought losing Sebastian meant losing the whole world, but now she realized life held countless possibilities.

Now, she would live for herself.

As for love, perhaps someday in the future, she would meet someone who truly cherished and loved her.

But at this moment, she was more excited about rediscovering her confident, independent self through new career challenges.
