Left Out in Their Eyes 20

Chapter 20

The evening sun’s afterglow filtered through the exhibition hall’s glass dome onto the floor. Julian watched Elizabeth intently studying the exhibits.

Suddenly he spoke: “Speaking of which, the contract can be signed now.”

Elizabeth’s movements paused, then she quickly opened her bag.

The contract in her folder was pristine as new.

“Mr. Rothschild truly keeps his word.”

Julian took the contract and pen: “Miss Skylar carries the contract with her at all times-such dedication is quite rare. Ever consider changing jobs? I’l pay you more than Boss Lin.”

Elizabeth was amused by his comment: “I just habitually prepare thoroughly. You flatter me.”

“Now I’m curious.”

Julian suddenly put down the pen, his gaze meeting hers directly: “Why would someone like Miss Skylar suddenly leave the states?”

His question made the air freeze instantly.

Elizabeth stared at the contract clauses.

Sebastian’s indifferent voice saying “divorce” suddenly flashed through her mind.

She lowered her eyes: “Things in USA made me unhappy, so I decided to venture out.”

“Is that considered running away?”

Julian’s voice carried a hint of teasing, but softened when he noticed her dim expression:

“Actually, people should be like the steel framework in the exhibition-pieced together to continue. Stay away from unhappy people and situations, move forward-that’s the way to survive.”

Elizabeth’s head snapped up.

She felt his words made perfect sense.

As more memories returned, the unhappiness increased proportionally.

Those countless nights of sleepless worry over Sebastian-only she had been trapped in place.

No one had told her then that turning away was also a choice.

“You’re right.”

She heard herself say, her throat tightening.

Watching Julian sign his name, Elizabeth finally relaxed completely.

That evening, Zoe’s screams nearly shattered the phone speaker: “Elizabeth, you’re amazing! You actually got Julian to open up – that’s a miracle.”

Elizabeth leaned against the headboard, looking out at the foreign night scene through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

“He’s not that strange. Actually, I find him quite interesting.”

After hanging up, the room fell into silence.

Ehzabeth tossed and turned, unable to sleep, with Julian’s every word circling in her mind.

She got up and pulled back the curtains. The city lights sparkled like a galaxy.

Perhaps, as Julian had said, life shouldn’t be trapped in the past.

This time, she would live for herself.
