Chapter 8
After he hit me. Brandon seemed to lose all his fight. He agreed to my resignation.
I picked a time when he wouldn’t be in the office to pack up my things. Before leaving. I pushed open his office door and grabbed our wedding photo from the desk drawer.
When he set up his office, he made sure to display our wedding photo prominently. But tenna came along, the decor changed bit by bit to fit her tastes. The photo was hidden away, replaced by the cartoon figurines she liked.
I took one last look out the floor–to–ceiling window of his office, watching the busy traffic below
When we first came to the city center, Brandon and I stood across the street, gazing up at that towering financial building.
I had been full of hope, dreaming out loud, “One day, we’ll have our own office in that building!”
He squeezed my hand tightly, saying, “Sylvia, trust me, I’ll make it happen. I won’t let you
down.*
Now he had made it, but he had let me down in every way that mattered.
As I walked out of the building, I unexpectedly ran into Jenna.
I recalled Brandon mentioning that Jenna had been fired.
I noticed her once–prominent belly was now gone.
It seemed she had been waiting for me, and as soon as she saw me, jealousy twisted her features. “You shameless woman! You can’t let go of Brandon, can you? Do you know what he said about you that night? He said you’re almost thirty, and your skin isn’t as tight as mine. He said being with me made him feel young again.”
She lifted her chin defiantly, searching my face for a reaction.
1 could only smile faintly and glance at Brandon, who stood a few paces behind her. I called out, “Looks like Jenna believes you completely. She even terminated her pregnancy for you. Any decent man would owe her an explanation.”
Brandon stepped forward, anger etched on his face as he glared at Jenna. “Didn’t I tell you to take the money and leave? What are you still doing here?”
Tears welled up in Jenna’s eyes. “Brandon, is this woman threatening you? I can’t believe you have no feelings for me! That night, I asked you who was better, me or Sylvia, and you said you liked me more!*
I watched the exchange, unable to hold back a laugh at her words. “You really believe what men say when they cheat?”
Jenna shot me an angry glare. “Stop trying to stir the pot! Do you think bringing up a divorce will win Brandon back? You can’t even have kids! He’ll dump you sooner or later!” Brandon was nearly beside himself with rage. He slapped her hard and commanded her to
shut up.

shut up.
Then he turned to me, saying, “Sylvia, I don’t want kids. I just want you.
I was momentarily at a loss for words.
In the realm of misunderstanding, Jenna and Brandon truly made a perfect pair.
Jenna was humiliated in front of me. With her eyes red from anger and shame, she whipped out her phone and declared, “Brandon, I recorded everything from that night! I’m sending it to that slut Sylvia right now!”
Brandon lunged at her, trying to grab her phone.
In the chaos, a video was sent to the company group chat.
I opened the video, and Jenna’s sultry voice filled the room.
Both Jenna and Brandon went pale as the realization hit them.
With a horrified scream, Jenna tried to take back the video, but it was too late.
Once I got home, I forwarded the video to my divorce lawyer with a note: [Another Evidence of Infidelity ].
