Chapter 1
“Ms. Moreau, are you sure you want to terminate this pregnancy?”
The doctor’s repeated questioning, snappert Lena Moreau ont dé
her daze.
She widened her eyes, seemingly unable to believe what seas happening.
Only when the doctor prompted her again did she realize with shock that she had been reborn.
On this very day in her previous life, Lena had discovered she was pregnant and subsequently made a choice that cost her dearly.
The child in her womb belonged to Robert Ashford, her uncle with no blood relation, the CEO of Ashford Group.
When Lena was seven, her parents died in an explosion while negotiating business abroad.
The Moreau family had once helped Robert, so he took her in and raised her himself.
As a child, Lena was well–behaved, so he personally attended to all her needs.

He raised a seven–year–old girl into a seventeen–year–old young
woman.
Among all the Ashfords, Lena was only close to Robert, always clinging to him alone.
With the onset of puberty, she couldn’t help falling for the man who had redeemed her.
On her eighteenth birthday, she confessed to him with the courage from alcohol, then stood on her tiptoes and kissed his lips.
Robert was usually disciplined, but that day, strangely, he felt feverish and dizzy after just one drink. Lena’s kiss made him lose all reason.
When he woke up and saw the mess on the bed, he pushed her away harshly.
For the first time, Lena felt Robert’s hatred as he lost his temper badly.
But she didn’t understand what had happened.
She had only kissed him impulsively, and their intimate encounter was purely accidental.
Yet he thought she had deliberately schemed it all.
“Lena, what have you done? I’m your uncle!”
Lena tried to explain, but Robert wouldn’t listen.
He kept emphasizing that he was her uncle and that they shouldn’t be together.

For the first time, Lena argued back, “But you’re not my blood uncle. We have no biological connection.”
This was their first argument. Furious, he moved out of Ashford Manor.
Lena didn’t see Robert again until a month later.
She was pregnant, and his grandfather, Zachary Ashford, forcibly summoned him back to Ashford Manor to discuss their marriage.
Under family pressure, Robert reluctantly agreed to marry her.
Lena thought her life would be happy from then on. They had a child and were about to get married.
But her married life was miserable.
On their wedding night, Robert stayed with the woman he loved, Colette Wilson. The next day, he moved all his belongings out and never returned.
He and Colette loved each other for life, while Lena stayed home raising their daughter alone.
Robert despised her and, by extension, the daughter she bore.

Even the daughter Lena had raised came to hate her when she grew up, blaming Lena for bringing her into a world where she couldn’t receive a father’s love.
After Lena’s death, her daughter immediately went to Robert and accepted Colette as her mother.
Recalling these memories, Lena’s face was drenched with tears, the pain still fresh in her heart.
The doctor, accustomed to such scenes, patiently prompted again, “Ms. Moreau, are you sure you want to terminate this pregnancy?”
“Yes!”
This time, Lena’s answer was unwavering and resolute, her voice trembling not with uncertainty but with determination.
This time, she would not repeat her previous mistake.
She immediately scheduled the abortion, deliberately ignoring the doctor’s contempt.
“Where’s your family member? Call him to sign the consent form.”
“Doctor, I have no family left. I’ll sign it myself.”
The doctor wasn’t surprised and muttered under his breath, “These young girls nowadays, no self–respect at all. Getting an

abortion at barely eighteen, completely reckless with your
health.”

As Lena lay on the cold operating table, she knew that this time, she and Robert would never be together.
She thought, “This time, let him be with Colette!
He’ll never know that I once carried our child.”
After leaving the hospital, Lena didn’t hesitate to call her mentor, Jane Murphy.
“Ms. Murphy, I’ve made up my mind. I accept the offer to study in France.”
