Chapter 22
Chet’s words were like a bolt from the blue, causing Jonathan to tremble as he opened the wedding invitation.
Stammered. “What do you mean? Chet, aren’t you Mari’s Uncle Chet? How could you marry her?”
Chet laughed and took Marissa’s hand, intertwining their fingers.
He looked down at Jonathan on the ground and sneered, “Mari used to be an orphan, adopted by my elder brother and sister–in–law.”
“I have liked her since I was young, you abandoned her.”
She gave me the opportunity. I pursued her. Now…
He paused, raised the hand he was holding to his chest, and then continued.
“Don’t you understand yet? Mari has already agreed to marry me.”
Jonathan and his friends widened their eyes, surprised that the Monroe family had kept this secret for so long
He suddenly stood up, and his friends quickly supported him, almost falling to the ground.
Jonathan looked at Marissa, “Mari, what he said wasn’t true.”
“You said it, what he said wasn’t true!”
Marissa’s heart ached for a moment as she looked up at Jonathan. “It’s
0%
true, you didn’t hear wrong.”
My Uncle Chet and I were about to get married, the person you hate
the most.
“Jonathan, welcome to our wedding.”
After speaking, she linked arms with Chet and got into the car.
Jonathan gasped heavily, his heart feeling like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, causing him unbearable pain and making it difficult to breathe.
Seeing the two about to drive away, Jonathan’s friends became anxious.
“Jonny, what should we do? They are leaving!”
Jonathan covered his chest with one hand and rushed to the front of
the car.
He desperately pounded on the car window, “Mari, don’t leave me.”
“You can ask me to do anything, as long as you come back to me.”
In the passenger seat, Marissa rolled down the window a bit, her voice tinged with sarcasm.
“Jonathan, even if you don’t plan to threaten Uncle Chet with the video. I won’t forgive you because I don’t like deception.”
Jonathan was lost in thought for a moment, with his head hanging down, and the car immediately drove away.
He sat on the ground in a state of despair, watching the car getting further and further away.
Chapter 22
“Mari! Mari!”
Jonathan clapped his hands on the ground, his voice piercing the eardrums of everyone present.
One person held up a phone, squatting beside him, “Jonny, didn’t Chet say Marissa was adopted by the Monroe family?”
“I just found out the Welfare House where Marissa stayed with a friend. Shall we go take a look together?”
Jonathan cried his heart out, his eyes fixed on the departing car.
Marissa in the car clenched her fist when she saw it in the rearview‘ mirror.
Chet suppressed his inner sadness and asked, “Mari, can you tell Uncle Chet what happened between you two?”
Marissa lowered her head and pursed her lips slowly.
She met Jonathan and fell in love with him, then later found out about his plans.
In the end, she left him and told Chet everything.
After Marissa finished speaking, the tears that had been held back began to flow again. “Uncle Chet, do you think I’m very foolish?”
Although those things were all done by Christina, Jonathan saved me in a critical moment.
“I really didn’t know what to do…”
Chet tenderly held Marissa’s hand and comforted her gently.

“You’re not stupid, it was Jonathan’s fault in the first place, you don’t need to blame yourself.”
Suddenly, a flash of fierceness appeared in Chet’s eyes. Jonathan had hurt the person he loved, and he was determined to teach him a lesson.
“Jonny! Jonny! Are you okay? Come help, Jonny fainted.”
Jonathan lay in front of Marissa’s mansion crying until he passed out. and several men scrambled to lift him into the car.
