Chapter 4
Marissa tasted the coffee, her face unreadable, and gave a small nod.
Caught off guard by Marissa’s calm, Christina set down her cup.
“You’ve been with Jonathan for two years. I show up and tell you I’m his fiancée, and you just sit there like nothing happened?”
Marissa gave a bitter smile, resentment bubbling beneath the surface.
How was she supposed to react?
After what she had overheard that night, she no longer had it in her to be shocked.
Therefore. Jonathan hiding something like this did not even faze her
anymore
Seeing
int
ssa just quietly drinking coffee, Christina quickly lost. in provoking her.
She had expected tears, anger, or some dramatic outburst after she told Marissa who she was.
Instead, Marissa’s reaction threw her off, leaving her unsure of how to proceed.
After a brief pause, Christina adjusted her approach and softened her
tone.
“Our families will be holding the engagement ceremony soon. Jonathan already agreed to it.
“If I were you, I’d walk away now.
“Don’t wait for the moment he tosses you aside like garbage. That kind
of humiliation stays with you.
“If you feel wronged. I don’t mind giving you a little financial compensation.”
Marissa calmly emptied her cup before looking at Christina dead in the eye. “When exactly is this engagement happening?”
Christina blinked, a little caught off guard. After that, she gave Marissa a knowing smile. “Sometime this month. The exact date hasn’t been set, but it’ll be within the month.”
So that was it. Jonathan had planned it all along. He wanted to humiliate her on Valentine’s Day, discard her, and then walk straight into an engagement with the Tagina family.
The man she had once trusted and loved had turned out to be this
heartless.
Marissa stood up. “Since you already know I’ve been with him for two years, why didn’t you bother checking who I am?
“I don’t need your money. If that’s all you came to say, then I’ll take my leave. ”
Christina’s expression darkened. Then, Marissa paused and turned back slightly. “Jonathan only ever thinks of himself. He won’t love
anyone–ever.
“This is a business arrangement, right? So don’t bring real feelings into it.”
She turned and walked toward the door.
Suddenly, Christina grabbed her arm and shouted, “Who do you think
you are, talking to me like that?”
In a fit of rage, Christina picked up the nearby teacup and hurled it at Marissa.
It hit her head, and the skin impacted turned red almost instantly. Marissa winced, covering her forehead, pain twisting her features..
Christina, clearly not done, shoved her before she could steady herself.
Marissa stumbled backward and fell, her head smacking against the floor.
Dazed, she tried to sit up, but everything around her felt fuzzy.
And then–bang! The teahouse door slammed open.
“Christina, have you lost your mind?”
Jonathan’s voice thundered through the room, filled with fury.
Marissa looked up at him through hazy eyes, barely registering his face. Even dressed in his tailored suit, Jonathan’s presence was stormy.
He rushed over, scooped Marissa up with one arm, and then shoved Christina backward Christina backward with the other.
The coffee on the table spilled all over Christina’s outfit, soaking her and leaving her visibly flustered.
