Chapter 2
The next day, I went back to Greenwood Residence to fetch my ID card.
After I walked into the living room, a small piece of my skin was burnt by a sudden spark from the fireplace.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Grace. I was adding firewood and didn’t see you coming in,” Amanda said.
She held a fire poker and only put down her hand when I gasped.
I slowly opened my eyes.
The new thing I saw, the photo frames and ornaments I had put in a lot of effort collecting were all This book had been added on your bookshell
They were replaced by several exquisite postcards.
The air conditioner was on; as the wind blew, my burnt skin felt hot immediately.
I stumbled and almost fell to the floor.
Seeing this, Samson, Brooke, and Maurice exchanged glances and sneered with disdain.
It seemed they were disgusted by my act, thinking I was a hypocrite, putting on a show right after I got home.
“Grace, didn’t I warn you yesterday not to come back here again? Why are you here?”
Brooke glanced at me disdainfully. “You don’t have anywhere else to go?”
Samson mocked, “Come on. She’s an orphan. And she’s a jinx no less; everyone close to her is dead, including her parents. Where else could she possibly be?”
Suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat.
The first day I came to the Miller’s place emerged in my mind.
That day, Brooke held my hand tightly, racking his brains to cheer me up.
Samson said to me, “Don’t be afraid, Grace. From now on, this is your
home.”
Though Maurice didn’t say anything, he got the most spacious, cozy room ready for me to live in.
After the four of us gradu This book had been added on your bookshelf oved to Greenwood Residence due to work.
Maurice remembered my preferences clearly. He decorated the master bedroom thoughtfully and even transplanted the roses from the garden back at home and planted them here.
He announced to everyone that from now on, I’d be the irreplaceable hostess of the family forever.
Then Amanda moved into Greenwood Residence, too.
On the first day of her arrival, she knocked on the door with a bouquet.
Gradually, she became familiar with all of us.
While I wasn’t noticing, she became closer and closer with the three of them.

She always clung to them and pretended she broke my collectibles accidentally,
At first, I found confronting her too awkward, so I put up with it.
But she grew more and more outrageous. Once, she even broke a glass Brooke brought me from abroad right in front of me.
I couldn’t take it anymore and questioned him, only to be pushed away by Maurice.
Frowning, he scolded me, “Amanda didn’t mean to. Besides, it’s just a glass. Just buy a new one. Why do you have to make a big deal out of it?”
Meanwhile, Brooke looked at me disapprovingly while kicking away the glass shards on the floor. “Couldn’t you be more tolerant? Amanda is our guest. Where are your manners? Is this what you learned after living with us for so many years?”
Samson echoed, “Amanda is younger than you. How could you lash out at her? Shame on you.”
Holding the glass shards, for the first time, I felt helpless and at a loss.
From that day on, everything changed.
I was no longer the special one in the three brothers‘ hearts.
Amanda replaced me bit by bit.
She became the new hostess of Greenwood Residence, forcing me to leave as soon as possible.
Given this, I guessed there was nothing to be attached to.
I just wanted to pack up and leave quickly.
As I walked into my room, I was stunned to see my personal belongings discarded on the balcony; they looked like a mess.
With Amanda in his arms, Maurice stared at me condescendingly.
“Know your place, Grace. You’re an orphan, and my family was kind enough to take you in. You’re not in a place to be upset with Amanda, the heiress of a rich family, and of course, you don’t get to disrespect her.”
Brooke said with disdain, “Since you refuse to leave no matter what, move into the baseinent then. We’re planning on changing your bedroom into Amanda’s painting studio. From now on, she can come here whenever she wants, and the studio has everything she needs.”
Samson stomped on the birthday gifts they had given me to please Amanda.
“Grace, if you dare to hurt Amanda in front of us again, get lost! You’ll no longer be part of the Miller family.”
His words were so cruel.
And his tone was so detached.
If it were in the past, hearing those words would make me devastated.
But I wouldn’t live here anymore, I was about to leave in a couple of days. So, was it really necessary to argue with them? The answer was no, of
course
I nodded and said flatly, “I see.
“I’ll move out today.
“In fact, I’ll leave right after packing up. Rest assured.”
Maurice snorted, “How laughable.
Are you running away from home again? It’s a lame trick.
“Your parents are both dead. For their sake, we’ll let you slide.
“Remember–from now on, know your place.”
I walked past him and said softly, “Soon, I won’t be your concern anymore.”
My days here were indeed wonderful.
But this wasn’t my home.
