Knowing that I was coming. Maria turned down a charity gala invitation.
As soon as she saw me, her eyes turned red.
“You’ve just been discharged from the hospital. How come your face is still pale?
“I’ve arranged for everything about the marriage. Grace, it breaks my heart. to see you leave.”
I gave her a card that had the money I had saved over the years on it.
Then I said, “After I get married, I’ll bring my husband to come and visit you. Maria, thank you for taking care of me these years.”
Her tears streamed down her cheeks.
“You don’t have to thank me, Grace.
“I blame myself. I failed to take care of you and even had to sacrifice you, forcing you to marry someone else.
“I was so delusional, wanting you to be my daughter–in–law… Forget it. Those brats don’t deserve you.
“Take back the card. It’ll be part of my wedding gifts to you. I’ll attend. your wedding for sure. Grace, promise me you’ll be happy after getting married.”

When we were talking, Maurice, Samson, Brooke, and Amanda came
back.

Brooke added, “On the contrary, Grace had been pampered by us She

Maria was puzzled at first, and now, she realized what was going on and was so furious that she smashed a glass on the floor.

They left, and I comforted Maria for a long time before she finally calmed down.

I curled up on the ground.
