Chapter 16
Leah’s POV
I looked back and saw Josephine falling to the ground.
“Oh, Luke, help me! I feel dizzy! I… I can’t walk!” Josephine pleaded with tears in her eyes, stretching out her arm toward Lucas.
Lucas, who had already walked away, stopped immediately and ran back, pulling her up from the ground.
“What happened?” he asked.
“Oh, nothing. I tripped over something. This is all my fault.” Josephine said and wrapped her arms around Lucas‘ neck.
“Can you walk?” he asked.
Josephine shook her head with grief. She looked petite and innocent.
Lucas sighed and carried her up in his arms, walking away with her.
Josephine snuggled with Lucas and took a glance at me over Lucas‘ shoulder, displaying an evil smile.
That bitch always played innocent to get sympathy. I needed to teach her a lesson today and stop it once and for all.
Just wait.
After the race, Lucian was in high spirits because our horse won.

While he was talking to some Alphas from other packs. I grabbed a bottle. of wine and walked toward the outdoor swimming pool.
As I stood by the pool, my gaze fixed on the shimmering water.
I poured a glass of red wine and held it delicately in my hand. I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness deep in my chest.
The reason for my sudden melancholy was Lucas, the man who rejected
- me.
I didn’t know where he was or what he was doing at that time, but I was sure he would look equally lost and forlorn.
For a brief moment. I felt my heartstrings tug. I knew he must be going through a tough time, but at the same time, I couldn’t ignore the fact that he was the cause of most of my own struggles.
I wished I could do something to erase the pain for both of us, but I didn’t
know how.
But the good news was, I did know how to stop the pain from my ankles –
I kicked off my heels and stepped on the floor on my bare feet. My feet were burning in pain. The pool of crystal–cool water would definitely soothe the pain.
Looking around and seeing no one around, I lifted the hem of my dress. and sat next to the pool, putting my feet into the water.
I lifted the glass and saw there was no drink left in it. I sighed and poured myself another glass of wine.
“It’s that bad, huh?” I heard a man’s voice coming from behind.
Oh, no. I just wanted to enjoy a moment of solitude. The last thing I
wanted at that time was another man walked into my life and spoiled. everything.
But when I turned back, I immediately changed my mind –
A tall young man was standing behind me. His curly blonde hair bounced with each step he took, drawing attention to his chiseled jawline and high cheekbones. But it was his piercing blue eyes that truly captivated me. They all seemed to flash with a sense of wisdom and understanding beyond his years.
“Miss Lewyn, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Allow me.” The young man stretched out his arms toward me, trying to pull me up from the edge of the pool.
Feeling embarrassed with the bottle of wine and empty wine glass standing next to me, I tried to grab them and stand up by myself. But maybe I had consumed too much wine, or maybe I got lightheaded because I suddenly stood up after sitting for a long time, or maybe the deadweight of the diamond necklace had pulled my neck, or maybe this young stranger’s appearance was dazzling… I didn’t know, anyway, one thing led to another, and I found myself at the risk of falling into the pool. ruining the most expensive dress in the world while drowning myself to death.
A pair of strong hands grabbed my arms and saved me. I looked up and found the young man leaning toward me. His face was so close to mine. If I lost my balance, I could easily mold my lips over his. The curve on his lips revealed his sense of humor and his charming nature. It was clear that he was confident of his devilish smirk, exuding a natural charisma that was hard to resist. Mine, he must have inherited this striking feature from his mother, who must have been a beauty in her own right.
I struggled to stand upright and put down the hem of the dress to cover my naked legs and feet.
RUD
In the hustle. I still couldn’t take my eyes off him. He was the epitome of a modern–day Adonis. a sight to behold, and a man of substance. Despite his refined appearance in his well–fitted tuxedo, it was clear that his body was muscular and well–defined. His long, lean legs and arms were evidence of his dedication to fitness.
I got lost in his gaze, like watching a glacial iceberg, which was destined to fall, melting solemnly into the deepest part of the Arctic ocean.
As he leaned forward, I detected it. The sweetness of his scent. Ah, his
subtle yet alluring scent
alluring scent – a fragrance that was uniquely his own, which made me have a strong impulse to rip off my clothes and jump at him.
This sent me an alert.
“Than… Thank you, Mr…?” I lost control of my tongue and became
stuttered.
“Darren. Darren Swanson. Always at your service, Miss Lewyn.” The young man bowed slightly, holding up my hand, and kissed it. His slender fingers hinted at a level of elegance that was hard to match.
Swanson. Every werewolf has heard of the Swansons of the Edge Tails.
Pack.
They were one of the most powerful and prestigious families in the South.
“Thank you, Mr. Swanson. Are you the son of Alpha Derek Swanson?” I asked in a dry voice.
“Miss Lewy, please, call me Darren. Mr. Swanson is my father and I am his youngest son.” Darren smirked at me.
“Thank you, Darren, for helping me to regain the balance,” I chuckled. I liked this guy at first sight and I knew he felt the same for me.
Sometimes people just click.
“Miss Lewyn, you regained your balance by yourself. And I’m happy to witness the whole process.” Darren cracked a large smile on his face. He was beaming like the sun.
I took up the bottle of wine and poured myself a glass.
He looked at the thin layer of remaining liquid in the bottle and said, “I thought the party was lousy, but I hadn’t expected it to be this bottle- emptying lousy.”
“This is a great party. Everyone looks important and beautiful.” I took a glance at the cheerful crowd in the distance.
“And you still end up drinking by yourself next to the pool,” Darren said.
“I don’t know. Sometimes I feel that I can’t blend into any group. Sometimes I just want to…” I paused and took a sip of wine instead.
“Run away from your own life.” Darren completed my words for me.
“Oh là là.” I stopped drinking and tilted my head. “A man who saves me from awkward tipsy falling and finishes my sentence. Where have you been in my life?”
