Chapter 18
Leah’s POV
“Are you still buying it?” I looked at Lucas and asked.
“Whenever you meet, she’s the one who gets injured. I don’t understand.” Lucas said. Even in his drenched state, he exuded an air of confidence. and authority.
My heart sank.
“So, you’re still buying it. I can’t even. Anyway, forget about it. I don’t want to have anything to do with you two.” I turned and wanted to walk
away.
A pair of strong hands reached out and pulled me.
Looking up, I saw my very angry and offended ex–husband.
“Don’t you think you should explain what happened to me?” Lucas‘ blue eyes glared at me with fiery intensity. His veins bulged on his forehead as he struggled to control his seething anger.
“What do you want me to explain?” I asked in a calm voice. His hand was gripping hard on my arm so tightly that it turned red.
Lucas was incensed by my nonchalance and raised his voice, “If you were wronged in the past, why didn’t you ever explain anything to me? Explain. it to me.”
“So, I don’t want to explain anything to you and you asked me to give you an explanation for not explaining?” I raised my eyebrows. “Let go of me,
124D
Lucas. Stop making a scene. Everyone is watching.”
“Let them watch. I don’t care. I want answers. I’m not going to let go of you until I get them!” His voice was intimidating.
All of a sudden. everything turned silent, save for the sound of Lucas‘ heavy breathing. I knew he was trying to maintain his composure, but it was becoming increasingly difficult for him. I could see the rage building inside him, threatening to spill over at any moment.
“That’s just what I do. Never complain. Never explain. I thought it would help you to see reality as what it was and save our marriage.”
“I didn’t want to reject you, but you asked for it! You gave up on our marriage. You ran away with another man right after I rejected you. Were you having an affair with another man? Was that why you were hiding from me? Do you think that His Highness Lucian would cherish someone like
you as I do?”
- OK. That’s pure jealousy talk now.
“You’re the one who’s accusing me of having an affair to ruin our marriage? I barely left your house after I got married to you. Are you feeling jealous of me? Is that why you asked your mother to slander met online? To accuse me of stealing from you?!” I shot back.
“I have never ever asked my mother to do anything! She never listens to anyone!”
Yeah, I know that. I thought to myself. That old grumpy witch would
burn in hell.
Didn’t get any response from me, Lucas continued in a softer voice, “Leah, I’m not saying that it’s all your fault, but it takes two people to build a marriage and two people to tear it apart. Don’t you have any
responsibility for the failure of our marriage?”
“Well, do you want a wife to apologize for wanting her husband to herself? There are three people in our marriage, and I’m not the third person.” I looked up at him with tears in my eyes.
Just when I thought I had done with Lucas, he pulled me back again.
stood there quietly, eyes downcast. I didn’t want Lucas to see the tears in
my eyes.
“Leah, talk to me. If you weren’t happy about our marriage if you were mistreated, why didn’t you say anything? Why did you choose to put up with lave you ever loved me, Leah?” Lucas‘ hands were shaking and I
us close to losing control.
Answer me!” Lucas‘ voice was hoarse. He drew himself closer to me,
towering over me.
I shrank back instinctively, cowering in fear.
My weakness was immediately detected by Josephine, for that bitch dwells on other people’s weaknesses.
“Lucas, I…”
Before I could finish my sentence, Josephine exclaimed, “Leah, I know you don’t like me. I knew it as soon as we met for the first time. But now that you have already been rejected by Lucas, why do you have to show up at this party and try to get back to him? Why can’t you just walk away, leaving both of us alone? What do you come back? What do you want from us? Lucas has already given you a lot of money!”
“Shut up, Josephine. I’m having a private conversation with someone. You may not speak unless you’re addressed to,” I said in a commanding voice.
Η
I was on the verge of losing my temper as well. I tried to hold it, but what Josephine was doing definitely wasn’t making it any easier.
Josephine held her arms around her chest, shivering in the wind. She looked so innocent and vulnerable.
When Lucas looked away, she immediately gloated and then said in a soft voice, “Leah, please stop talking to others in that condescending voice. It’s very rude. I have always been tolerant of your omega’s bad attitude, including your pushing me into the water multiple times, but please don’t take it as my weakness. Do you know what happens if you bark at Alpha Lucas‘ new fiancee?”
Then, Lucian showed up, followed by soldiers.
As soon as they saw Lucas grabbing my arm, they pulled him away from me and pointed their weapons at him.
“What happened, Farrow? I need an explanation,” Lucian stared at Lucas as if he wanted to eat him alive.
Lucas looked at the soldiers and the weapons pointing at him, then he eventually laid his eyes on me.
He looked so indignant and hurt.
My heart shattered. His journey after my departure had not been an easy one, but he was still here, still fighting, still trying to make sense of it all.
Lucian snapped and said, “Hey, Farrow. Eyes on me. I’m talking to you. What happened between you and Leah?”
“I married her and then I made a mistake by letting her go, Your Highness. That’s what happened.” Lucas replied in an indifferent voice.
“Aha, so you’re the unfortunate ignorant husband, and she’s the third
1254
woman in your marriage?” Lucian pointed at Josephine and asked in a harsh voice.
Josephine panicked. She must have never thought the Lycan Prince would put her under the spotlight. Her mouth was wide open, but there was no sound coming out of it. Then, she clamped it close. Then, she flinched. back with eyes wide open, stretching out of her trembling hands, hoping to grab something that wasn’t there.
“No, Your Highness… It’s a misunderstanding… Alpha Lucas and I are just friends…”
“Great. So now that makes you an irrelevant person here. Can you beat it, so Leah can have a private conversation with her ex–husband now?” Lucian asked.
“Yes… Yes… Your Highness… I’m… I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to…” Josephine stated, stepping back. Then, she tripped over the wine bottle I left on the side of the pool and dropped into the swimming pool.
After swallowing a full lung of water, she flapped her arms and swam to the edge of the swimming pool swiftly
“I’m fine! Don’t worry! I’m alright!” She said in a low, trembling voice. while climbing out of the pool in her heels. It was quite slippery and she dropped a few more times into the pool.
“Ah, I thought she couldn’t swim.” I shook my head and said.
“It must be a miracle, isn’t it, Farrow?” Lucian asked.
Lucas took a glance at Josephine. Then, he clenched his fists without saying anything.
“I have never pushed her into the swimming pool, by the way,” I said to
1254
Lucas.
“Leah, listen…” Lucas said.
Lucian blocked Lucas from me and said, “No. You listen, Farrow. I don’t Tre you and I don’t like you getting anywhere close to Leah. Next time I u laying your paws on her, I will cut them off and shove them into rass. Do you understand what I mean?”
“Yes. Your Highness,” Lucas whispered.
A Leah has made it very clear, she doesn’t want to have anything to
with you or that little girlfriend of yours. She doesn’t have any obligations of being included in your stupid family farce anymore. Soldiers, escort Alpha Lucas and his lady friend to the cabin and help them get changed. Make sure the lady’s chest is well covered before letting her out of the cabin.”
As Lucas walked away with Josephine, I heard Lucas‘ cold voice –
“She didn’t push you, did she?”
Josephine took Lucas‘ hands and said, “Luke, I swear on Basil’s name. I have never ever lied to you. That woman just wants money from you. You need to stay away from her.”
Ah. Josephine and her pathetic gold digger theory. I couldn’t believe that she was still trying to get away with her dead brother’s good name again.
Feeling furious, I rushed upstairs to the balcony, grabbed a bag full of cash that had already been prepared, and opened the zip. Within seconds, millions of dollars of paper bills poured down onto Josephine and Lucas‘ heads like rainfall.
In people’s exclamation and chaos of grabbing money to their pockets, I
1254 D
raised my voice and shouted down, “Lucas, this is all the money you’ve given me in the past five years! Now take it back and go find another wife who can donate blood to that bitch on your arm!”
