Chapter 5
The night before the pack’s annual celebration, Kieran came home late.
“I’m leaving for a business trip tomorrow,” he said offhandedly, not even looking at me. “I’ll meet you directly at the celebration when I return.”
I didn’t reply.
My silence must have irritated him because he turned to face me.
“Are you mad?” He frowned. “Just because I had a private meeting with Seraphina?”
I met his gaze, my expression calm.
“No,” I said softly. “I understand.”
He smirked, as if pleased by my response. “That’s what I expect from my Luna. You should be more understanding.”
Understanding.
That word used to cut deep.
But not anymore.
Because I was done understanding him.
Let him believe he had everything under control.
Soon, he would realize he had lost the one thing he took for granted.
I waited until he went to bed before pulling out my phone.
A single message to Darius.
[Celebration night. I need your help.]
His response was immediate.
Anything for my future Luna.]
My heart skipped a beat at his words.
Once, long ago, Darius had confessed his feelings for me. But I had chosen Kieran, believing he was my fated mate.
Darius had accepted my decision but had also made a promise:
If I ever wanted to return, his pack would always be my home.
Now, I was finally taking him up on that promise.
As I stared at his message, a small smile tugged at my lips.
The celebration would mark the end of one chapter-
And the beginning of another.
