Chapter 1
“Ms. Duncan, after careful examination, your marriage certificate was found to contain inaccuracies, and the seal was forged.”
The statt’s casual remark left Cecelia Duncan, who came to reapply for her marriage certificate, a little bewildered.
“It’s impossible. My husband Rhett Welch and I got married five years ago. Please help me check again…“.
The staff inputted the ID numbers of the two individuals again for the search.
“The system displayed that Rhett was in a married status, but you were indeed unmarried.”
Cecelia asked, her voice trembling, “Who was Rhett’s legal wife?”
Cecelia tightly gripped the back of the chair, barely managing to steady herself.
If Cecelia initially doubted that it was a system error, then upon hearing the name “Rebecca”
All fantasies were instantly shattered
The grand wedding five years ago, the loving and exemplary couple for the past five years, and the marriage she was proud of, were all fake.
Cecelia returned home, holding a fake ID with no legal validity, feeling disheartened.
Just as I was about to push the door open, I heard a sound coming from inside.
As the family lawyer of the Welch Group, “Mr. Welch, it has been five years, don’t you consider giving Mrs. Welch the legal recognition she deserves?” Cecelia froze in her tracks, holding her breath.
For a long time, Rhett’s deep voice sounded
“Wait a little longer, Rebecca was still working hard overseas, she needed the title of Mrs. Welch in order to establish herself in the highly competitive
The family Lawyer reminded, “But you and Mrs. Welch never obtained a marriage certificate, so if she has any doubts, she can leave at any time.” Rhett lowered his gaze, pondered for a moment, and then spoke, “After all, Rebecca gave birth to a daughter for me, and I was determined to do everything in my power to protect her.”
As for Cecily, she loved me so much that she would never leave me
Moreover, she had no way out as she had broken ties with me and the Duncan family in order to be able to marry me.”
In the scorching August, Cecelia’s body and mind felt as if they had fallen into an ice cave.
Originally, she stubbornly went against her parents” wishes and was willing to severies with them in order to marry him, only to find out that it was all part of Rhett’s scheme.
All the past doubts, also at this moment, have been answered.
The Welch Group, which had never been involved in charitable projects, suddenly established a charity organization
Rhett, who used to dislike noisy children, was surprisingly affectionate towards orphan Briana in the welfare home
No wonder he has been frequently hinting at wanting to adopt Briana recently. Briana Welch is actually the daughter of Rhett and Rebecca.
Cecelia looked up at the dazing sun and felt a moment of dizziness.
Her legs went weak, and her knee banged hard against the edge of the stone steps.
Rbett, inside the house, heard a noise and rushed out, carrying her horizontally back into the house.
He gently placed Cecelia on the sofa, his movements gentle as if caring for fragile
“Cecily, were you feeling unwell?
Cecelia tilted her head and stared at him, eamestly trying to uncover the truth behind his loving gaze, how much was real and how much was fake.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t see through it.
Seeing her silent, Rhett panicked.
“Cecily, did you hear something…”
Cecelia shook her head, “I might have had a heatstroke, feeling dizzy and nauseous.”
Rhett visibly breathed a sigh of relief, stood up, and reprimanded Cecelia’s driver.
“How did you take care of Mrs. Welch? Go to the finance department and collect this month’s salary, then get lost.” Cecelia waved her hand to stop, “I saw the sunshine was so good, it was my own decision to come back, not his fault.”
Rhett squatted down and gently blew air onto her knee, where blood vessels were visible.
“Cecily, you were too kind and soft–hearted”
For a whole five years, she was kept in the dark, immersed in the illusions woven by Rhett
Cecella suddenly grasped his hand, still refusing to believe that Rhett, who loved her to the core, would deceive her.
Maybe City Hall made a mistake, maybe Rhett was unaware.
Holding onto the last glimmer of hope, “Rhett, the marriage certificate got damaged, should we go and get a new one?
There was a flicker of panic in Rhett’s–eyes, but he quickly regained his composure
He turned away and dared not look directly into her eyes. “Let the lawyer handle these small matters, you take care of your health first” Cecelia closed her eyes in despair.
