Chapter 4
Megan led the applause, saying, “Wonderful!”
Everyone congratulated us.
Quentin looked at me coldly: “Lily, you’d better think this through. If you really marry Nathaniel, there’s no chance for us to be together.”
I thought to myself: After what happened in my past life, I don’t want to be with Quentin anymore either.
I grabbed Nathaniel’s collar and kissed him on the lips.
Nathaniel was very shy.
I said, “I’m serious. I’m going to marry Nathaniel.”
“And I’ll marry no one but Lily!” Nathaniel said excitedly.
I’d never seen him look so earnest before, and my feelings were complicated.
Quentin was about to say something when Lauren rushed forward to congratulate me: “Lily, congratulations. I see your hand seems fine now, so I’m relieved.”
She was shameless enough to bring up my hand injury.

Nathaniel had been happy just moments before, but hearing this, his expression darkened.
He stepped forward, positioning himself in front of me: “Lauren, I don’t like arguing with women. But if you try to frame Lily again, I’ll make sure you can’t stay here anymore.”
The atmosphere in the room became awkward because of these words.
Quentin snorted coldly: “Really? Nathaniel, what do you have without your father? You spend your days coasting in some administrative department—are you particularly proud of that?”
I’d never seen Quentin look so vicious.
Nathaniel clenched his fists. I quietly took his hand and handed Quentin a manila envelope.
I said, “Open it carefully.” This was my final warning to him.
Quentin’s expression changed the moment he saw the blade.
“This is from Lockheed Martin?”
Quentin looked at Lauren, who was trembling, and didn’t speak for a long while.
Lauren’s father was a technical supervisor for a defense contractor–getting hold of blades from this batch would be

effortless for him.
Tom wasn’t involved in military contracts, so this blade appearing in my house seemed very strange indeed.

Quentin saying Nathaniel was worthless was completely wrong.
Tracing the blade’s origin, who had handled it, and how it ended up in Lauren’s possession–Nathaniel had figured it all out in less than half a day.
Though he appeared casual, he was actually the Pentagon’s
go–to guy.
NCOS curried favor with Nathaniel, and the generals had good relationships with him too.
When he wanted to get something done in the military, it was much easier for him than for Quentin.
Quentin gritted his teeth and took Lauren’s hand.
He said, “I owe you one this time. I apologize to you on Lauren’s behalf. I’ve said before that Lauren saved my life. Whatever she’s done, I’ll take responsibility for it.‘
I snorted coldly: “Then bow and apologize to me in front of everyone.”
I had no intention of humiliating Quentin–I just felt that

compared to the grievances I suffered in my past life, this request was far too lenient.

I waved my bandaged hand: “That’s not too much to ask, is it? Major Worthington?”
“Not too much… How did you get that scar on your wrist?”
Suddenly my wrist was gripped tightly, and Quentin stared at me with wide eyes.
