By the time Nathaniel pushed Quentin away, red marks had already formed on my wrist.
I remained silent. Under everyone’s gaze, Quentin bowed deeply
to me.
“I’m sorry, Lily. Please forgive me…
Quentin’s body trembled uncontrollably, as if he couldn’t even finish his words.
I nodded. “I accept your apology. You can go now.”
Quentin, who had desperately wanted to get rid of me before, now stood frozen in place.
“Quentin.” Lauren called out timidly.
Quentin turned and left my house without looking back.
His steps grew faster and more urgent.
Maintaining his last shred of dignity, Quentin dragged Lauren to the training ground.
He asked, “How did you get that injury on your wrist?”
Lauren replied, “From rescuing you at the ice lake, of course.

Don’t you remember? You fell through the ice, and I desperately pulled you out… I saved your life…”
Quentin frowned. His hazy memories began to clear.
He grabbed Lauren’s hand, repeatedly stroking the scar as he probed, “Good thing you were wearing gloves that day, or your hands would’ve gotten frostbitten.”
Soothed by Quentin’s sudden tenderness, Lauren boldly wrapped her arms around his neck.
She said, “So Quentin, you have to treat me well from now on. I heard Nathaniel’s planning a grand feast. Our wedding can’t be outdone by theirs. You’re a major after all–please fulfill this wish of mine.”
Quentin stroked Lauren’s hair, but his gaze turned cold.
“You seem to enjoy comparing yourself to Lily.”
Lauren smoothed her hair. “That’s because I love you… Quentin, my dad may not be a senator, but my feelings for you are genuine. I’m not fickle like Lily. She used to like you, and now she’s engaged to the general’s son.”
Finding Quentin’s silence somewhat frightening, Lauren explained, “I’m not comparing you to Nathaniel. You became a major so young–you definitely have a bright future. Thank you for helping me with the dance competition. Quentin, do you

Quentin snorted coldly. “You want my help again? You still haven’t explained the blade incident to me.”
Lauren nervously lowered her head. “Quentin, didn’t you say you’d do anything for me?”
A soccer ball slammed into the goal on the training field, making Lauren jump.
Finally, Quentin spoke. “My willingness to do anything for you. was based on the fact that you saved me. Forget helping your dad get
even if you asked me to die for you, I’d be willing. But how many of the things you’ve told me are true? I clearly saw that the girl who pulled me out of the ice lake was barehanded. She wasn’t wearing gloves!”
Instantly, Lauren’s face turned deathly pale.
“Quentin…”
