Chapter 10 I’m Sorry
For the next few days, most of the crew treated Graciela as invisible because of Leanna’s assistants‘ warning, but she
managed to finish her scenes anyway.
But not everyone here was a snob. Nora Harper, the assistant who had lent her the hairdryer that day, was very nice to her.
The two soon got along.
Nora was very indignant about how Graciela had been treated.
But Graciela didn’t mind that much. Her whole attention was on studying.
She had been good at singing, dancing, and so on since childhood, but she lacked formal training in being an actress.
Now that she was aiming to be an actress, she realized how tough it was.
Take her current role for example–she was supposed to play a meek pushover, but she herself had always been untamed, and
she never took things lying down.
Therefore, it was no picnic for her to play this role convincingly.
During these days, she had always stayed on set even though it wasn’t her scenes just to observe and learn from others.
When wrapping up, Bryant praised her for making rapid progress, and she felt pretty good about that.
After saying bye to Nora, she called Emery instantly, who gave
her a thumbs–up, too. “Good job, Grace. Hey, are you free today? I want you to meet someone.”
“Who?” she asked curiously.
“You’ll know when you see him. We’ll wait for you at Pinnacle Restaurant at seven this evening.””
“Fine.” She curled her lip, not quite happy about being left in
suspense.
At 7:00 p.m., she showed up at Pinnacle Restaurant on time, but Emery was nowhere to be seen.
A handsome man was sitting in the private room.
The sleek tailored black suit accentuated his striking face and
poised stature.
He looked young and a bit rakish, and his eyes, tilting slightly at
the corners, added a touch of charm to his temperament.
“What a heart throbber!” Graciela exclaimed inwardly,
captivated by his breathtakingly handsome face at once.
Though her three brothers were all impeccably good–looking, she was still amazed by him.
“Hello, Ms. Ferguson,” he stood up and smiled at her kindly.
“Huh?” Graciela was about to leave the room. She stopped and asked curiously, “Do you know me?”
“Yes. Let me introduce myself. My name is Ambrose Morrison, and I asked Emery to set up today’s meeting.” He paused, looking guilty. “I wanna say sorry to you because I’m the one who hit you the other day.”
“You?” Graciela was surprised.
“Yes. I can’t tell you how awful I feel. I came back to the country that day and was still jet–lagged, so I couldn’t concentrate. And it
was raining heavily that day, so I didn’t dodge in time. I’m the
one to blame. I’m so glad you’re fine, or I would have lived with
guilt for the rest of my life.”
The guilt on his face was palpable.
Graciela couldn’t bring herself to see him frown and quickly
waved her hand. “It’s not completely on you. Emery told me I
ran out in the middle of the night. In fact, I couldn’t remember anything from the past five years after that accident. Now I feel years younger.”
Ambrose smiled, “Sure enough, Emery didn’t lie. Ms. Ferguson,
you’re both pretty and kind–hearted. Would I have the honor of being your friend?”
No woman could resist being praised by a man with impeccable beauty.
Graciela was no exception. She nodded at once. “Of course.”
“Then tonight’s on my treat. Ms. Ferguson, take a seat.”
She couldn’t help but chuckle. “Now that we’re friends, let’s keep things casual. You can call me Grace, and I’ll call you Ambrose.”
Ambrose scratched his hair shyly, color flooding his face.
Spotting that, she thought, “How interesting. Despite his
charming looks, he’s actually as bashful as a lamb.””
They both enjoyed the meal.
While eating, they chatted casually and were both surprised to
realize that they hit it off right away.
Ambrose told Graciela he had been living abroad since ten and
had rarely come back. He returned this time to take over the family business.
The Morrison family was in the jewelry trade and held great prestige in the industry.
Graciela had a few valuable jewelry pieces from their brand.
He wanted her to have an emerald gemstone of fine quality as a gift from him.
She could only accept them because he wouldn’t take no for an
answer.
After dinner, he suggested a walk, and they strolled along the streets on the late autumn night.
“In fact, other than jewelry, my family is in the realm of film and television, too. I can help you with resources if you need
them,” Ambrose offered.
“That won’t be necessary!” She quickly waved her hand and
stuck out her tongue. “I promised Emery that I’d make it in
showbiz on my own merits. I gotta keep my promise. Besides, I’m actually enjoying the learning process anyway.”
Squinting, Ambrose praised her, “Impressive, Grace–you’re so
ambitious and strong–willed.”
“You bet!” She spun around proudly.
Just then, a man suddenly reached out, snatched her shoulder bag, and ran away.
If it weren’t for Ambrose who caught her in time, she would have fallen to the ground.
“Oh no! The gemstone you gave me is in the bag!” she exclaimed.
“It’s fine…” Before Ambrose could finish, she had already run away to catch up with the robber.
“Grace!” Ambrose immediately chased after her.
The robber turned around and saw that Graciela was about to
catch up with him.
He couldn’t help but curse under his breath, thinking, “Judging
from the way they dress, they’re both rich, so I snatched her
bag, thinking she wouldn’t mind that much. Who knows? She’s
actually so relentless!”
He quickly averted his gaze and sped up to get rid of Graciela.
However, Ambrose suddenly stood in front of him out of
nowhere and swept his leg swiftly. In the next second, the
robber fell to the ground.
Ambrose immediately stepped on him hard, immobilizing him, and he wailed in pain.
Graciela stopped and panted with her hands on her hips.
“Quick, Ambrose–check if it’s still in there!”
Ambrose bent down, picked up her bag, and gave it to her.
“Thankfully, it’s still there!” she breathed a sigh of relief and smiled brightly.
Ambrose was momentarily dazed by her smile.
Gazing at her, he said, “It would have been fine if we couldn’t get it back. I’m more than happy to give you another gemstone. You didn’t have to risk yourself for things that didn’t matter.”
“That’s not the same.” She waved her hand after her breathing became steady again. “This is the first gift you gave me. I’d get it back no matter what.”
Looking at her, Ambrose suddenly felt that his heart softened
for a second.
“Let’s take him to the police, Ambrose.”
The robber pleaded, “Please, Ma’am, I know I was wrong. Please
spare me. I promise I won’t do this again!”
“Yeah, right!”
