Chapter 21 Let Them
Leanna sighed, “Lamar, do you remember our childhood? The
night you were kidnapped, on that cold winter night, we
huddled together for warmth. We were so good back then! I
really want to go back to that time. Lamar, I regret so much,
regret going abroad to chase my dreams!”
Lamar’s expression gradually loosened.
Leanna keenly noticed his change, and her anxious heart finally
calmed down a bit.
She wiped away her tears, turned her back on Lamar, and said,
“You go! Since you don’t love me, I won’t stay by your side. I will
take care of myself and won’t bother you anymore!”
“Leanna!” Lamar’s heart, finally melted by her.
He hugged her and said, “How could I not love you! I’ve always
loved you!”
“Don’t touch me!” Leanna pushed away from his embrace,
refusing his touch, avoiding eye contact with him, her face
showing a determined expression. “Just go! I want to be alone.”
Lamar didn’t move anymore, he stood still and quietly watched
her for a while, then said softly, “Okay! You rest well! I won’t
bother you! Don’t worry, I’ve taken care of everything for you.”
Leanna still ignored me, she just stared out the window blankly.
She slowly turned around until she heard the sound of the door
closing.
A smile crept onto her lips, and her eyes sparkled with a
determined glow.
Graciela, look, this move is so effective!
You will never, ever beat me!
Curtis waited downstairs for a long time before he saw Lamar’s
figure.
As a responsible assistant, he immediately got off the car,
opened the door for the boss, waited for the boss to sit down,
and then returned to the role of the driver.
The boss didn’t look relaxed.
He pulled himself together to face it with all his might.
“Go find out what happened these days? Report back to me
tonight.”
“Yes, Mr. Arellano.” Curtis nodded, cautiously asking, “So, where
do you want to go now?”
“Let’s go back to Lake Apartments!” Lamar rubbed his tired nose
bridge.
Lake Apartments?
Wasn’t that where the boss used to keep Ms. Ferguson?
Curtis’s heart skipped a beat, but he didn’t show any expression
on his face.
The car started smoothly and soon disappeared around the
corner.
“Hey boss, it looks like there are some media camping out near
Ms. McLean’s house. I think they got a shot of you. Do you want
me to handle it?”
“No way! Let them be!”
“Oh!”
“Boss,” Curtis looked at Lamar’s rather unpleasant face in the
rearview mirror and couldn’t help but suggest, “Why don’t we
go to the hospital or back to the old house and have the family
doctor come over? You were already sick, and working non-
stop like this, even the strongest person couldn’t handle it!”
“No need. Just go back to sleep!” Lamar closed his eyes and pretended to sleep, too tired to deal with him anymore.
Curtis knew he couldn’t persuade him, so he just sighed and
sped up the car.
The car parked steadily at Lake Apartments. After Lamar got off, Curtis drove away with a heart full of worry.
Lamar looked up and saw that familiar window, pitch black
with no light on, waiting for him to come back.
He got on the elevator he had been taking for five years and
opened the familiar door.
The warm light drove away the darkness in the room, but it
was quiet and lonely everywhere.
He felt a bit dizzy, leaning against the wall as he walked into the
bedroom, and then he just threw himself onto the bed.
The temperature inside seemed to be rising steadily, he felt like
he was burning up but couldn’t muster the strength to get up, so
he let the heat consume him.
In a half–dream state, he felt like there was a cold body as cool as
jade pressing against him, all the heat in his body instantly
disappeared, and he couldn’t help but chase after this trace of
coldness.
“Grace!” he sighed, murmuring softly, “Where did you go?”
