On the day I left the apartment wanting to commit suicide, I met Gavin.
It was already dark when I left the apartment. My emotions had plummeted, and I had lost all hope for life, wanting to
leave this world that caused me so much pain.
My mind was blank as I wandered aimlessly through the streets.
Finally, I stopped at a pedestrian crossing.
The flashing red traffic light seemed to beckon me into the darkness of hell.
In a daze, I thought I saw Lily lying in a pool of blood.
Just as I was about to step forward, a force suddenly pulled me back from behind.
Gavin later told me,
“You know, I thought it was strange at first. Out of all the people there, I spotted you at first glance. I don’t know why, but I

felt like you were emitting a kind of sound.”
I asked him what kind of sound.
“Save me.”

The moment he turned to look at me, the smile I had been forcing froze on my face.
メ
He was right. For years, I had been like a drowning person, desperately hoping someone would save me, let me live on. But everyone wanted me dead, or rather, they couldn’t wait for me to die.
When Gavin pulled me back from the pedestrian crossing as the red light came on, the first thing he said to me was,
“Look how thin you are. Let me take you for a meal.”
Without waiting for my answer, he took my hand and led me to a restaurant.
Then, without a word, he put on an apron and went to the kitchen. He moved quickly, and in just ten minutes, a dish full of color, aroma, and flavor was placed before me.
My growling stomach made me abandon the thought of dying at that moment.
I thought to myself, even if I were to die, I didn’t want to become a starving ghost.
So I started wolfing down the food in front of him.

Gavin was like a ray of light in my life, dispelling the darkness of my world.
After getting to know him, I learned that he was a chef at a restaurant. His dishes were not only creative but also delicious, so delicious that it made me reluctant to die at that moment.
He would take me to the farmers‘ market in the early morning to buy fresh vegetables, and let me be the sole taster of
his special dishes.
He would even make all kinds of delicious desserts for me.
He said,
“Sophia, although you don’t tell me, I always feel that your life has been too bitter. Have some sweets, to drive away the bitterness in your life.”
Every time he said this, I felt a warmth flowing into my heart.
“Gavin, do you know that if it weren’t for you, my life might have ended that day.”
His hand, which was squeezing cream, paused for a moment, and then I saw him smear a bit of cream on my face.
“Life is so beautiful. You can taste all kinds of delicious food, and experience sweet love. Why would you want to die?”
I didn’t respond to his words.
