Chapter 9
Nathan’s POV
There was a girl I had had a crush on for a long time.
Back in freshman year, the day we arrived on campus, I spotted Sienna in the crowd right away.
She stood out like sunlight in the crowd.
I stared at her for a while, and Jesse noticed. He laughed and offered to get her contact information for me.
I said no.
Jesse was a playboy, and I didn’t want that girl anywhere near him.
I later found out her name was Sienna Scott.
She was an art major–and a talented one at that.
But she rarely entered competitions. Most of her time went into part–time jobs.
Was she short on money?
She worked hard, pulling late shifts at a fast food place almost every night.
I had someone wait outside the restaurant. Anyone who tried to go in and order, we’d pay them to leave.
It was late, who needed a burger at that hour? Couldn’t they see how

exhausted she was?
That night, she had just finished class and didn’t look too good. I got worried and followed her.
Unexpectedly, she fainted.
I caught her and picked her up. She was way so thin that it broke my heart.
On the way, I ran into Jesse. He happened to be driving, so I asked him to take us to the hospital.
The doctor said Sienna was worn out and malnourished.
I wanted to stay with her until she woke up, but my mom called and made me go home to deal with something.
Jesse promised he’d let me know when she woke up.
But he lied.
He got her contact information.
A few months later, I noticed they were getting really close.
Jesse started working part–time with Sienna every night.
I was furious.

Eventually, they got together. Jesse said Sienna was the best, most beautiful girl he’d ever met.
I wanted to slam him into the ground.

But whatever. As long as he treated her right. And she looked happy–that was enough for me.
For a while, Jesse did take good care of Sienna. She even gained a little weight and looked even more beautiful.
But then he cheated.
I couldn’t understand it–Winnie wasn’t even close to Sienna, not by a mile. Yet Jesse kept sneaking off to hotel rooms with her every night.
If only Sienna had found out sooner, maybe she wouldn’t have fallen for him so completely.
But she never did. Not even by the time we graduated.
I waited another year, and I got news that Sienna was getting engaged to Jesse.
I told him I couldn’t make it, but the truth was, I was already planning to crash the engagement party.
I was going to expose him for cheating in front of everyone.
But the day before I could go through with it, Sienna fell from a building and lost her memory.
When I rushed to the hospital, I saw Jesse holding Winnie and Sienna lying on the bed, pale as a ghost.
Did she really lose her memory?
Then why did she look so heartbroken?
And just like that, everything changed. Sienna suddenly became my girlfriend.

Chapter 9
People online said the way to a woman’s heart was through her stomach, so I started cooking all her favorite foods, hoping I could keep her by my side.
That night, as Sienna cried in her sleep, I couldn’t help but feel sad. I pulled her close, hugging her tightly.
Why did that man have to hurt someone I cared so much like this? I should have snatched Sienna away five years ago before all this happened.
I wished I could stay in this moment forever.
Even if Sienna was pretending to have amnesia, I’d be happy living in her lie for the rest of my life.
But one day, she decided to shatter that lie.
I knew it–she was leaving.
I peeked at her email. She was going to study abroad in Italy, pursuing a degree in art, her area of expertise. She would definitely shine in that field.
I was reluctant, but I had to let her go.
Sienna seemed to have figured out that I’d been peeking at her.
I’d fly to Italy to see her every week. If anyone tried to pursue her, I’d
make sure to take care of those foreign men.
One day she suddenly called to confront me.
“Nathan, what are you doing?”
“I want to be with you.”

Sienna fell silent. Her anger faded, replaced by uncertainty.
She must’ve known I was into her all along, right?
I bought an apartment in Italy and started seeing Sienna every week.
I learned to cook a lot of sweet and spicy food and fattened Sienna.
The internet was right; I managed to keep her by my side after all.
