Chapter 1
She had been with Arnold Melton for seven years. He was great- except for his addiction.
At 12,000 meters in the sky aboard a private jet, they’d just finished an intense round of sex. Nestled in the crook of his neck, Sophia Beasley whispered softly, “Arnold, I’m 26 now. My mom keeps pushing me to go on blind dates. But you know, I only care about think… it’s time we went public?”
you. Don’t you
Seven years of secrecy weighed on her. She longed to be acknowledged.
In the dim lighting of the suite, Arnold lowered his gaze, gently brushing her hair. “Sophia, give me a little more time. I’ll marry you.”
Hearing that, Sophia smiled and kissed him. “Arnold, you’re so good to me.”
He wrapped his arm around her slender waist and deepened the kiss.
“Babe, the plane lands in two hours. Get some rest. I’ve got an online meeting.”
“Okay.”
The suite went quiet again.. After a quick shower, she was about to lie down when she heard Arnold’s voice through the slightly open door.
Almost involuntarily, she stepped forward.

His phone was on speaker. She could clearly hear a teasing voice on the other end.
“Arnold, you’re too generous–giving us a live show like that. When you’re done playing with her, let me have a turn.”
“Hard to believe that so–called ice beauty Sophia is this wild in bed. Damn.”
“Arnold. I heard Cassandra is back. Back then you went crazy for her. Now your beloved crush returned, and you’re still messing with Sophia? Come on, new flings can’t beat old flames. You seduced your stepsister just to get back at your stepmom. Isn’t it time to ‘gift‘ her something really nice?”
Their laughter drilled into Sophia’s ears. Her mind went blank. Her fists clenched tight.
So Arnold got close to her for revenge?
“Why so quiet, Arnold? Don’t tell me you really plan to marry her. What about Cassandra?”
Hearing the desire in his friend’s voice. Arnold curled his lips. “To me, Sophia is just a toy. Toys aren’t fit to be wives.
“Back then, Fiona tried everything to marry into the Melton family- even killed my mom. Now it’s time she sees how her precious daughter moans like a whore under me.”
His words stabbed through her like icy blades.

returned to bed, thoughts spinning out of control.
She first met Arnold at the Melton family’s banquet.
Back then, he was cold and distant. He looked at her with nothing but
disdain and wouldn’t even let her call him brother.
She knew she was an outsider, so she trod carefully in the Melton family, always avoiding trouble–especially him.
But one incident changed everything.
Sophia had always been beautiful, attracting plenty of attention at university. One evening after class, a creep followed her and nearly ́‘ attacked her. Arnold appeared just in time to save her.
After that, they grew closer. One night, after too much to drink, they ended up sleeping together.
When she woke up, she wanted to run. But Arnold wouldn’t let her. He held her tightly and said, “You sneak a taste and think you can run? I
don’t think so.”
In the end, she was moved by his sincerity and threw everything aside to be with him.
For seven years, he treated her well–so well that she was willing to face the Melton family’s resentment just to become his rightful wife.
But reality hit her like a slap to the face.
The ringtone shattered the silence of the suite. Sophia snapped back to her senses, pulled out her phone, and answered. Her mom’s gentle but firm voice came through.

“Sophia, have you thought about the engagement?
“You’re not young anymore. I won’t be able to take care of you forever. You need someone reliable, someone you can count on.
“Anderson may not be your biological father, but he’s treated you like his own all these years. He handpicked this match for you. You’ll be in good hands.”
Her mom’s soft voice almost broke her last bit of resolve. Sophia
swallowed her pain and said quietly, “Mom, I’ve thought it through. I agree to the engagement.
She had wasted seven years on someone unworthy. It was time to start living for herself.
Her mother, Fiona Whitney, was clearly surprised. “Sophia, are you sure? When will you be free to meet the guy?”
Sophia’s mind was a mess. She brushed it off. “Mom, I’ve still got things to deal with. Let’s talk when I get back.”
Not long after she hung up, the door to the suite creaked open.
Hearing the familiar footsteps, Sophia quickly wiped her tears and pretended to be half–asleep.
Arnold walked over to the bed, planted a kiss on her forehead, then slid his hand down her waist, tugging at her robe.
His touch made Sophia sick.
She sat up and grabbed his hand. Her voice was flat. “I’m tired. I don’t
want to.”

Arnold didn’t notice her cold tone and kept teasing. “But I want to, babe.”
Staring into his lustful eyes, all she could hear were his mocking words with his friends–the livestream, the humiliation.
Her stomach churned.
Disgusting.
All of them were disgusting.
She shoved Arnold away and bolted barefoot into the bathroom, vomiting violently.
Arnold rushed after her, anxious. “Sophia, what’s wrong? Are you feeling okay?”
“It’s nothing. Just a bit nauseous.” She turned away from his touch and slumped on the couch with a pale face.
“I’ll go get you some warm water.”
Watching him bustling around, Sophia felt a flicker of doubt.
“Arnold, which one is the real you?” she asked herself.
Just then, his phone buzzed on the table.
Sophia glanced at it–it was a message on WhatsApp.
“Arnold, I’m pregnant.”
Sophia’s face turned ghostly pale. Her nails dug into her palms–yet she felt no pain at all.
