Chapter 5
On the other side.
Arnold took Cassandra for a series of checkups, and only after learning that the morning sickness was a normal symptom did he finally feel at
ease.
As they walked out of the hospital, Arnold noticed that Sophia still hadn’t replied to his message. His brows furrowed slightly.
He had been in such a rush earlier that he panicked and left her alone at the hospital without a second thought.
For a moment, Arnold felt a deep sense of regret.
“Arnold, the baby and I are both craving your cooking. Can you make something for us when we get home later?”
Cassandra’s coquettish voice sounded beside his ear. Arnold quickly suppressed his thoughts and replied, “I still have things to do this afternoon. Just tell the assistant Wayne what you’d like to eat–he’ll go get it himself.”
As he spoke, Arnold lifted his foot, ready to leave.
But Cassandra, quick to react, grabbed his arm. “Arnold, are you going to see Sophia?”
Arnold’s expression darkened slightly, taken aback by her correct
guess.

His silence only fueled Cassandra’s anger. “Arnold, who’s more important to you–me or Sophia?
“You promised me you’d break up with her as soon as possible. Now I’m already pregnant–why haven’t you brought it up yet? Are you reluctant to let her go?”
Reluctant?
Hearing her question, Arnold let out a cold laugh. “Sophia is just your stand–in. I haven’t broken up with her because she’s still useful to me. Once I’ve, squeezed out all her value, I’ll naturally end things with her.

“All right, Cassandra. You’re pregnant now–you shouldn’t get upset. I’ll take you home and cook for you and the baby, okay?”
Seeing him lower his head to coax her, Cassandra leaned into his arms with a satisfied smile. “Arnold, you’re the best.”

Late at night.
When Arnold returned home, he saw Sophia packing up her things. Piled around her feet were the gifts and couple–themed items he had once bought for her.
“Sophia, what are you doing?”
Without even looking up, Sophia replied in a calm voice, “I don’t like them anymore. I want to throw them away and buy new ones.”
Hearing this, Arnold stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. His tone was indulgent as he said, “Alright, if you don’t like them, just toss them and get new ones. Use my card.

Chapter 5
“Babe, your birthday is coming up in a few days. I’ve been busy and haven’t had time to spend with you, but I’ve got a surprise planned for that day.
“Oh, and my buddies have been wanting to meet you. I’ll invite them over to celebrate too–how does it sound?”
In the past, Sophia used to look forward to his gifts and surprises every
year.
But this year, she didn’t want anything.
She felt disgusted.
“Sophia, why aren’t you saying anything? You don’t want them to
come?”
His voice came softly in her ear. Sophia suppressed her thoughts and replied, “It’s fine. If they’re your friends, let them come.”
“Babe, you’re always so understanding.”
Warm breath brushed her earlobe as Arnold’s burning hands wandered across her body. His voice was thick with desire. “Sophia, it’s been so long since we’ve been intimate.”
As he deliberately tried to provoke her, Sophia turned her face away to avoid Es kiss and said coldly, “I’m on my period. Maybe next time.”
Seeing her pale expression, Arnold didn’t push further. “Alright, then get some rest. I’ll go take a cold shower.”
“The sound of running water echoed from the bathroom. Quietly, Sophia picked up his phone from the table.

She entered the password and opened the photo album–only to find photos of the two of them together.”
Nothing else.
She slowly tightened her grip, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.
Was she overthinking it?
