Chapter 9
As soon as I finished speaking. I heard a cold snort from the other end of the line. “Oh. drop the act. I know you’re fuming inside. Don’t pretend like this doesn’t bother you.
“How does it feel? After everything. Cassian’s still going to be my husband. You’re nothing but a cheap, disgraced woman who got tossed around like garbage!
“Let me tell you, Cassian and I are going to be so happy together. He’s already flown to London to buy me a diamond ring. That’s how much he cares about this wedding!”
Whether Cassian came to London to confront me or to buy her a ring–I honestly didn’t care anymore.
If the two of them were truly getting married, then I could finally let go. without looking back. That was what really mattered.
”
“Ms. Reagan, you’ve misunderstood. I’m not pretending–I genuinely wish you both happiness.
“According to the Vroman family’s tradition, your wedding will probably be televised tomorrow, right? I’ll make sure to tune in. Best wishes in advance.”
Emily seemed ready to go on, but I ended the call right there.
The next evening, Liam took me downstairs for a walk.
Just then, Cassian–who was supposed to be in New York preparing for his wedding–suddenly appeared right in front of us.

When he saw me with Liam, he visibly froze. Then he rushed forward and demanded, “So he’s your ex?”
I clung to Liam’s arm, not bothering to hide my annoyance. “That’s none of your concern.”
Cassian stepped in front of us, disbelief written all over his face. “How is it not my concern? Don’t tell me you’re actually living with him now?”
Liam calmly moved in front of me, shielding me behind his back. “This is between Jocelyn and me. Please respect her decision.”
Liam had barely finished speaking when Cassian suddenly threw a punch, knocking him to the ground.
“What the hell are you doing?”
I rushed over to Liam and asked, “Are you okay?”
He shook his head and slowly got back up.
Seeing the scene in front of him, Cassian’s eyes burned with rage. “So you only care about him now? Don’t forget–I’m still your husband!”
But in my world, no husband would ever betray his wife the way he did.
He had long since lost the right to call himself that.
I helped Liam stand, keeping my voice cool. “Emily told me you two are getting married. Congratulations.
“Do me a favor and stop calling yourself my husband. People might get the wrong idea.”
Cassian jumped in to explain, “It’s not what you think, Jocelyn. I never wanted to marry her. It was Grandma who forced me. If you come back with me, I swear I’ll find a way to get rid of Emily.”

Even now, he was still deluding himself into thinking I’d go back with him. Unbelievable.
After everything he put me through, I couldn’t stand even one more second near him.
“There’s no need. Let’s end it here and never see each other again.”
Just then, Cassian got a call–it was Emily.
While he was taking the call, I took Liam’s hand and walked away.
Clips of the wedding were already spreading all over the internet.
Emily stood alone on stage in a lavish wedding dress, looking completely lost and desperate.
She paced back and forth, frantically calling Cassian over and over.
When he finally picked up, her voice cracked as she shouted hysterically, “Cassian, where the hell are you? The ceremony has already started! Am I supposed to stand here and keep waiting? This is humiliating!”
Whatever he said on the other end didn’t help. Right there on stage, she snapped and tore the entire wedding hall apart in a screaming fit,
Later, while Liam and I were having dinner at a restaurant, I got a call from Cassian.
“I’m not going to marry Emily, Jocelyn. Please, just give me one more chance…”
Before he could finish, I heard the unmistakable sound of a violent crash. through the phone.
Not knowing what had just happened, I hung up. Moments later, breaking news flashed across the screen: Cassian had been pulled from a car wreck
”
by paramedics.
He was covered in blood, unconscious, and clearly in critical condition.
After I finished reading the news, I looked up and saw Liam smiling as he held a ring in front of me.
Without hesitation, I held out my hand with a smile.
This time, neither of us would let go.
