Chapter 17 Outside the Door
Eva insisted on leaving the hospital and returned to her familiar home, feeling truly relaxed for the first time.[]
“Alright, you go wash up and get some rest,” Lily had driven her back and insisted on staying with her for the past few days. But once
they got home, Eva urged her to leave.
“You’ve been at the hospital with me these past few days, you must be exhausted.“[]
“Are you sure you don’t need me here?” Lily looked at her.[]
Eva shook her head. “I really don’t need you. I want to sleep properly, and with you here, I can’t really relax.“[]
She smiled at Lily. “Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. If anything happens, I’ll call you.“[]
The surgery was done, and Eva, being an adult, didn’t need anyone to watch over her. She just needed to rest. She wasn’t suicidal or anything like that, just physically weak. She didn’t need anyone hovering over her.[]
“Alright, if anything happens, make sure you call me,” Lily said, unable to argue with her. She stretched and headed to the door, then turned back, giving her a warning. “I’ll check in with you from time to time, even if you’re fine. Don’t go running off.“[]
“Don’t worry,” Eva smiled and made a gesture like a promise.[]
Watching Lily leave, Eva leaned back lazily on the couch.
“Home really is the best,” Eva sighed deeply.[]

She rested on the couch for a while, then cautiously made her way to the bathroom, removing her clothes gently, careful not to strain
the stitches.
She had been in the hospital for two days and felt she needed a good wash. She couldn’t take a full bath, but wiping herself down
with a hot towel was necessary.
Carefully, she wiped herself down, then changed into comfortable loungewear. Only then did she head to her bedroom, crawl under her own sheets, and feel a sense of security.[]
She dozed off.
It was the sound of her phone ringing that woke her up. She sat up and checked the screen. It was Sean calling.
She took a deep breath and looked toward the window, noticing that the sky outside had darkened.[]
“Hello,” Eva answered, her voice a bit hoarse.[]
“Got out of the hospital?” Sean’s voice came through, calm as ever.[]
“Yes, I got out this morning.” Eva replied honestly. After a pause, she continued, “I didn’t sleep well at the hospital, so I came back and took a nap. I overslept, I was thinking maybe tomorrow…“]
“I’ll come see you tomorrow,” Sean interrupted, speaking before she could finish.]
