Chapter 24 Close Proximity
“Can… you move?” Eva frowned slightly. At this moment, being so close to Sean made her uneasy. Moreover, his weight against her was pressing on her wound, causing a dull ache.
Sean mumbled groggily, seemingly giving a soft grunt, but didn’t move.

“Sean,” Eva took a deep breath, trying to gently push him away to give herself some space. However, to her surprise, Sean frowned, then directly raised his arm and wrapped it around her. This time, Eva found herself pressed harder against the wall, unable to move.
She stood motionless, but the stillness allowed her to feel m
acutely the strength and warmth of his hand around her.[]
Perhaps she should be grateful, grateful that Sean was not fully awake, as he likely didn’t sense her heart pounding so rapidly.
Her heartbeat raced, but she didn’t want Sean to know.[]
In those brief moments, Eva felt like an eternity had passed.[]

With Sean’s face resting on her shoulder, his breath brushed her neck.
As if struggling to wake up, Sean made a move, managing to take a small step back. He propped himself against the wall, releasing Eva, and turned around.
Eva took a deep breath and, after a few seconds, quickly helped him walk to the sofa.[]
Once they reached the sofa, Sean settled down much more obediently, leaning back into the couch. He didn’t struggle or move, just closed his eyes slightly, mumbling that he wanted some water.
“Alright,” Eva nodded, quickly getting up to fetch him some water.
She brought the water to him and squatted down beside him. As she did, she winced slightly, the pain from her wound flaring up.
“Here, drink,” Eva struggled to remain crouched and gently patted Sean’s face.[]
After a few pats, Sean slowly opened his eyes. Their gazes met, and Sean’s expression, dulled by the alcohol, seemed soft and disoriented.
He looked at Eva, staring at her directly.
Eva swallowed and lowered her eyes, avoiding his gaze. She then raised the water to him. “Can you sit up and drink?”
“Mm,” Sean seemed a little more alert now and used the couch to prop himself up.
“Here,” Eva handed him the water, watching him drink it all in one go. The slight movement of his throat as he swallowed was almost
sensual.
Once he finished, Sean looked down at her. Eva quickly looked away, not wanting him to notice her gaze.]
“Do you want more?” Eva asked.]
“No, thanks,” Sean shook his head and looked down at her wound, speaking again, “Did I hurt you?“]
“No, it’s fine. Do you want to sleep here, or should I help you to your room?” Eva took a deep breath, took the empty cup from his hand, and placed it on the coffee table.

“Sit here for a while?” Sean patted the spot beside him.]
“Mm,” After a moment’s hesitation, Eva nodded and was about to sit down when Sean’s phone rang.

“Your phone,” Eva looked at him, biting her lip.
“Help me grab it,” Sean lazily stretched out his arm across the couch, lying back as if letting himself be at her mercy.
“Okay…” Eva lowered her eyes, carefully reaching for his phone. She was hesitant to touch him, but the ringtone was urging her on. Had it not been for the incessant ringing, she might have given up.
When her hand touched Sean’s pocket, Eva felt her heart race again. The proximity was overwhelming.]
So close, she could feel Sean’s breath, sending chills
down her spine.]
“Here,” She took a deep breath, finally retrieving the phone and holding it out to Sean. Without thinking, she glanced at the screen. The name on it was Megan Stone.]
