Chapter 25 Checking the Wound
冷
“Hello…” Sean answered the phone lazily, his head resting against the couch. His voice was calm and warm, with a clear hint of gentleness.
“No, I just had a little drink,” Sean chuckled as he spoke.
Eva didn’t look at him, lowering her eyes and staring at the floor for a few seconds. She got up quietly, feeling that she shouldn’t be eavesdropping on his conversation.[]
The past, the disputes, were already behind them. At least!
now, Sean was willing to help her in her time of need. She should act as a
proper ex–wife and not obstruct his efforts to move on and find happiness.]
Eva stood up and was about to move, but was suddenly stopped by a force pulling her back.
The warmth and touch of Sean’s hand on hers became clearer by the second. She lowered her gaze and saw that Sean had grabbed her wrist.
“Alright, I know. Okay, see you later,” Sean said, still casually speaking, but he lifted his gaze and looked at Eva, gesturing for her to sit back down.
Eva swallowed and, honestly, didn’t want to.[]
She didn’t want to sit back down. So, she didn’t move, staying standing still, and even unconsciously resisting his grip, trying to pull her hand out of Sean’s grasp.
Sean seemed to sense her resistance, and the pressure on her wrist tightened.
After hanging up the phone, Sean tossed the phone onto the couch, looked
at Eva
again,
and
his
gaze deepened.]
“Sit down,” Sean said, his voice heavier now, completely different from the casual tone he had before.

“Sit down, Eva,” Sean straightened up a bit, looking more awake now.
Eva had always understood her position, but to feel the obvious difference in treatment like this made her heart ache. It was sinking, piece by piece.
The atmosphere became tense.[]
Sean furrowed his brow and looked at her, while Eva lowered her eyes, avoiding his gaze.[]
Sean sighed deeply, then raised his other hand. He quickly flipped up the hem of Eva’s clothes.
“What are you doing?” Eva widened her eyes and quickly stepped back. But since Sean still had a hold of her other hand, when she tried to pull away, she ended up stumbling right into Sean’s arms.[]
She landed against him, and as soon as she realized it, she quickly propped herself up against the couch, trying to get up.
Sean tilted his head and looked at her indifferently. “I just want to see if your wound is okay.“[]
“It’s fine,” Eva quickly sat up straight, moving a little further from him.]
At this point, she couldn’t really admit that it hurt, but in reality, it did hurt. It had been aching already, and the collision earlier made it worse, causing beads of sweat to form on her forehead.[]
Chapter 25 Checking the W
“Eva, don’t joke around with your body,” Sean became more serious, squinting at her.
“I… I’ll check it myself in my room,” Eva turned to him, her eyes filled with difficulty.[]
“I’m your husband,” Sean shook his head and smiled, his voice carrying a hint of helplessness.
Eva looked at him, unsure of how to respond.[]
“Can I take a look?” Sean lowered his voice, moving closer to Eva again.]]
When Eva felt the hem of her clothes being lifted, her heart started pounding, but she tried to avoid looking at him.[]
She couldn’t bring herself to look at Sean. She could only comfort herself, trying not to think too much or feel guilty.[]
But it was just basic human concern, and even if they were only friends, it was natural for him to care when she was in pain, to check on her.]
