- Chapter 5 Estrangement
Eva returned to the company for a while, and a little later, her good friend Lily drove over to pick her up.[]
Lily had organized a gathering at a bar and planned to take Eva along.
Lily came from a well–off family but didn’t work, so she didn’t have much influence. She was more of a socialite who spent her time eating, drinking, and having fun. Because of this, she couldn’t help Eva much financially.
Right now, Eva was facing a huge gap in funding. Borrowing money was never easy, especially when the company’s situation was
clearly not looking good. No one would want to invest in it; only a
The hope was slim, but trying one’s luck was still worth it. After all, business deals were often made over drinks.[]
As Lily drove, Eva silently stared out the window, watching the scenery whiz by.
“Are you feeling very tired lately?” Lily glanced at her. Eva’s exhaustion was obvious.
“Just a little, haven’t been sleeping well,” Eva turned to look at her, offering a bitter smile.]]
Lily nodded, her gaze shifting to the road ahead. She hesitated for a moment before speaking again, “Was Sean the one who came back during your grandfather’s funeral?“]
“Yeah, he came back right then. After all, he hasn’t filed for divorce. Even if it’s just for appearances, he has to stand there for a while.“]
Eva looked at her, then continued, “I’ve signed it. Once he signs, we’ll be divorced.“]
She didn’t want to talk much about emotions right now, but if she didn’t, it would suffocate her inside. At this point, there were very few people she could talk to.[]
That’s good, out with the old, in with the new. Honestly, it doesn’t matter whether you have this kind of husband or not.”
ot.”
If there weren’t an official marriage certificate, Lily would have suspected their marriage was fake, especially since Sean hadn’t shown up for three years
No passionate love, no comforting companionship–really, keeping such a husband was meaningless.
But as a friend, Lily still felt it was unfair for Eva.
The car quickly pulled up in front of the bar.[]
The two of them entered together, and since Lily was a regular there, they were greeted by familiar faces all along the way.
It was a complete surprise for Eva to see Sean in the bar.[]
The social circle was small, after all. Lily had booked a private room, but friends kept coming in to greet her–friends of friends, and eventually, everyone had gathered in one big room, and Sean was there too []
When Sean saw her, he didn’t show any special expression, just glanced at her indifferently before looking away
Lily pulled Eva over to sit on the couch. Lily had great social connections, and once they sat down, she was immediately surrounded by people
Eva slowly began to inch away from the crowd, gradually retreating from the circle without making a sound.
Chapter 5 Estrangement
After a while, she quietly stepped out of the crowd, breathing a little easier.
Luckily, not many of the people in the room knew about her relationship with Sean.[]
“Don’t like the noise?” A glass of wine suddenly appeared in front of her.[]
Eva looked up and saw a young man she didn’t recognize, smiling at her.[]
The man shook the glass in front of her, signaling her to take it, then sat down beside her.[]
“Luke, what should I call you?” The man extended his hand to her.
“Eva,” Eva smiled politely and shook his hand.[]
She didn’t know this person, and Lily probably didn’t know him either. He must be some friend of a friend of a friend.[]
