Chapter 10
Young people could be impulsive and stubborn at times.
But after Mike enjoyed her flustered expression, he immediately chose compensation.
Mia let out a sigh of relief, realizing she had been pranked by the young man.
She left with a dark face, tossing the card aside.
I watched her go, nodded at Mike, and followed her.
“Mia.”
In the hallway, Mia turned around at the sound, her pent–up anger finally spilling over.
“Ashley, seriously, you know Calvin’s situation, and you promised to take care of him. So what’s going on here?
“You had him fight for you?!
“Fighting aside, you didn’t even have his back, but you’re siding with someone else! Now he’s in the hospital, asking to see you, and what are you doing? Do you even remember you have a boyfriend?!”
It was strange. She was always polite and respectful in front of everyone, even when facing Mike.
But with me, she didn’t hold back when she was angry.

Why?
Was it because I never argued, only accepted it?
It seemed like that. In the past, whenever someone yelled at me, I’d get anxious and uneasy, always thinking it was my fault, so I’d just take it
in silence.
But now, I had grown up.
Just like I said..
It was never about me holding on to Calvin, but rather, I had moved forward and didn’t want him to be left behind.
So, seeing her so worked up, I just said, “We’ve broken up.”
Her anger instantly stopped.
I continued, “The four years are up. I brought it up.”
She was silent.
“He probably agreed. After all, he told me not to regret it, and the next day, he changed the locks and got rid of my things without even telling me.”
She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but all that came out was weariness.
“Ashley, you know Calvin…”
I knew.
“I know you’re about to say he didn’t mean it, that he just doesn’t have
normal emotions. What if I were a little more understanding, a little more forgiving, maybe he’d still feel something special for me. But-”
I quickly got the words out.
“Why should I?
“Why should I be treated like this? I didn’t make him emotionless, and
I didn’t tell him to fight. I’m not a girl of equal status to him.
“I don’t have loving parents, and I’m broke.
“But just because I’m poor and have no parents, does that mean I deserve his treatment?”
I asked her, “I’ve never taken advantage of him. We even split the rent equally, so why should I give in to him?”
This was the first time this strong woman truly looked at me, taking me in with a careful gaze.
Of course, I came out to find her to make things clear.
“I broke up with Calvin a month ago.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, I’ve been so busy this month. I did my part for the four years we agreed on. Unfortunately, I couldn’t become that special one for Calvin. I also appreciate you helping me get rid of my father’s harassment.
“That’s it.”
I said it all in one breath, feeling an unprecedented sense of relief.
I didn’t want to hear what she would say next, so I politely said
goodbye and turned away.
“I still have to take care of the patient, so I can’t stay here.”
“Ashley.”
Someone called me from behind.
