Chapter 15
“Kids, it’s time for dinner!”
The dean’s grandmother is already old.
But still kind and strong.
She was a bit confused, couldn’t help but serve me food during meals: “Ashley, you’re such a good kid, so thin, eat more.”
“Mike has been mentioning you to me a lot recently. He is someone I watched grow up, and he has a good character. Please don’t look down on him, he will definitely treat his girlfriend well.”
“Grandma, she was not…”
Mike felt embarrassed.
Grandma Dean, hard of hearing, shouted loudly, “What? You still haven’t confessed? Didn’t you say you were going to confess before?”
Mike: ”
I blushed instantly and buried my head in the bowl to eat.
Many things afterwards fell into place as if they were meant to be.
Calvin and I really fell out.
He obsessively wanted to go back to the past.
But those who stay in the same place are always just themselves.
He learned to do what I had done before.
I clumsily wrote a hundred love letters, which I threw in the trash.
I made a lunch box for myself and braved the pouring rain to deliver food to me.
But I had already shared an umbrella with my roommate and returned to the dormitory.
After hearing about this, he came down with a severe cold.
I had a high fever for a whole day and night.
Tears slid down the corner of my eye when I closed my eyes.
Sometimes called grandma.
Sometimes called Ashley.
The overwhelming emotions of being late came rushing in, threatening to engulf him.
A serious illness.
By the time I heard from him again, it was already the end of the
semester.
Mia called me and said, “These days Calvin has been insisting on seeing you, but I managed to put him off. By the way, after four years my overseas company is all settled, and I am planning to send him abroad for study and treatment. I will be leaving in a few days… most likely not coming back.”
I listened indifferently, then suddenly heard her change the subject:
“Ashley, Auntie should apologize to you.”
She was a little annoyed: “Mike shouldn’t have gotten angry with you, anyway, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
“People always subconsciously take advantage of the weak, because they won’t resist, only accept, so much so that now I realize my behavior has been extremely rude.”
I finally had an epiphany: “I am no longer weak.”
With a smile. she said, “It’s like this, you grew up, it’s Calvin. He stayed in the same place. I always felt sorry for him for lacking normal emotions, so I always spoiled him, never taught him how to respect others or how to respect himself.”
“Fortunately, after a serious illness, he seemed to have changed a lot. Since he can cry… That was the first time I saw him shed tears since the day he was born.”
“Now I am ready to correct that mistake.”
“Speaking of which, this phone call may be a bit of a disturbance, but I have some good news for you as a way to make up for it.”
I listened quietly as she spoke, “Your father drank three days ago, got into a car accident, and died on the spot.”
The phone in my hand almost slipped.
I wondered what it would feel like if the person I hated the most died.
They would burst into laughter or indulge in eating and drinking.
But never did I expect that I would end up crying my heart out.
Not sad, not upset.
But rather freed.
Do not cry for him.
And for oneself.
Mia knew I didn’t want to see him again, so she took care of his affairs. for me.
It was nothing more than being burned into a handful of ashes.
And I took Mike to my long–lost hometown.
