Chapter 7
There was no shortage of rental apartments in the area near the university, and the school had dorms too. But since Mia had been concerned about Calvin’s special situation, I had lived outside the campus with him.
Now that the lease was up, I quickly asked the counselor if there were any available beds.
The counselor had always been quick to respond and replied right away. “Room 518 still has one vacancy. Want to take it?”
I didn’t hesitate. “I’ll take it.”
Actually, I was also a legend in our class, not because I was amazing, but because I never left campus grounds and rushed off to my part–time. job as soon as class was over.
I had no friends in the class.
Naturally, it created a sense of mystery.
Now that I was in the dorm, my roommate watched me efficiently set up my bed, clean, wash, and hang up my clothes–all done in half an hour.
Her eyes were filled with admiration.
“You seem like one of those lively, energetic women from old movies.”
I smiled.
The invisible distance between us was unknowingly shortened.
Mike was right–no one had ever taught me. That was all.
When someone showed me what was right. I took the step.
My new life without Calvin wasn’t as scary as I had imagined.
On the contrary, I ended up making a lot of friends.
I didn’t try to fit in, and of course, Calvin never crossed paths with me.
He never called either.
It was simple.
I had blocked him.
From what I knew about him, he wouldn’t even notice, because he had probably blocked me too.
It was a habit of his–whenever he was upset with me or angry, he’d block me and wait for me to back down..
But this time, he waited for a month, and I still didn’t come back.
On the other hand, thanks to the new experiences over the past month, I felt genuinely grateful to Mike. When I received my part–time job payment. I was finally able to treat him to a meal as a thank–you.
He didn’t refuse, just thought for a moment before saying, “You can just cover my share of the meal for the weekend club dinner.”
The cost of the group dinner was much cheaper than treating him to a mcal alone, and I appreciated Mike’s silent consideration.
I nodded enthusiastically.
At the gathering, everyone was joking around, playing truth or dare.
It was a mess.
When the atmosphere was at its peak, the single people were pushed to drink a toast with the person next to them.
The senior next to me and I were both teased into it.
I stood there awkwardly when suddenly someone grabbed the drink in front of me and downed it in one go.
Mike smiled and joked. “I’ll drink both, just don’t bully Ashley.”
Everyone let out knowing whistles.
My face instantly turned bright red.
Mike, standing beside me, comforted me.
“It’s fine, they’re just drunk and talking nonsense.”
We were so close that our shoulders almost touched.
He lowered his head when he spoke to me, it might’ve looked like we were a couple whispering to each other.
Just then, the door to the private room, which had been slightly ajar, was suddenly pushed open.
Someone called my name, “Ashley.”
I looked up.
It was Calvin.
The once lively private room suddenly had an outsider, drawing everyone’s attention instinctively.
“Ashley? What are you doing here?”
The person behind Calvin looked surprised.
It was Mia. She must have come to see Calvin and was having dinner
with him.
Although Calvin and I had broken up, I didn’t hold any grudges against the other, so I instinctively greeted her politely, “Mia.”
Before I could even process it, I saw Calvin charge forward and punch
Mike.
