Chapter 5
I wasn’t even due yet–there was no medical reason for a C–section. With so many people around, the doctors weren’t about to break the rules just because Isaac asked.

Maria was already in the delivery room. If I didn’t have my C–section now, it was only a matter of time before her dead fetus was exposed. And when that happened, Hugh and Luna would definitely demand answers. Given Hugh’s temper, he might even beat Isaac to death.
Isaac couldn’t take that risk. His face darkened ominously. After a few seconds, he suddenly said, “Honey, my mom spoke to a master. He said you should go to the rooftop and pray to the sky before giving birth–it’ll bless the baby with a safe delivery.”
The rooftop? There was only one way up–via the stairs. So that was his plan. He wanted to push me down the stairs. I didn’t refuse and followed him up.
“Honey, I’ll lead the way. Be extra careful where you step, okay?” Isaac put on a show of concern.
But what kind of husband walked ahead instead of behind his
pregnant wife to protect her from falling? And why did he keep reminding me to watch my step? I was on guard. So when Isaac suddenly spun around and lunged at me, I dodged with ease.
Before he could even register what had happened, he lost his

barely move. I rushed forward, looking concerned. “Oh my God. Are you okay?”
Isaac was in so much pain that he instinctively snapped, “You little bi-”
Before he could finish, I clutched my stomach and gasped, “I think I’m going into labor.”
The anger vanished from his face, replaced by joy. He immediately forgot about cursing me and urged me to hurry to the delivery room.
But I refused to move. “Honey, how did you fall like that? Are you hurt? How can I focus on giving birth when I’m so worried about you? Maybe I should put labor on hold and report this to the hospital. Their stairs must be unsafe.”
Maria was about to give birth at any moment. There was no way Isaac could afford any delays. “It was my fault. Nothing to do with the hospital. Just go have the baby,” he said in a panic.
I hesitated for a moment before finally agreeing, looking reluctant. But as soon as I turned the corner, my expression went completely blank. It was time.
I didn’t know what Isaac had arranged with Nova, but as soon as I clutched my belly and staggered toward the emergency room, she yanked me straight into the operating theater.
And there, I saw Maria. Since she was carrying a dead setus, a

C–section would expose everything immediately. That was why she insisted on a vaginal birth, enduring the pain and struggling through labor.
All the doctors were focused on her. No one paid me any attention. Maria spotted me and glared, seething with rage.
I smiled at her, then pressed play on my phone’s recording. Isaac’s voice filled the delivery room, loud and clear. “Maria? Who the hell cares about Maria? She’s nothing compared to you and our baby. If she ruins this day for us, I’ll rip her to shreds myself.”
Maria froze. Then, as if something inside her completely shattered, she let out an even more agonized wail. With one final scream, a lifeless, bluish infant slipped from her body.
But the moment the doctors and nurses saw it, they recoiled in horror. “A monster!”
Wrapped in a thick, yellowish membrane, the decayed corpse of a stillborn baby lay there, its rotting stench filling the air.
Maria panicked. She screamed for Isaac, turning to me and demanding, “Get him! Right now! Tell him to come here!”
I chuckled, “You have a phone, don’t you? Why not call him yourself?”
Before she could dial, I added lazily, “Oh, but Isaac’s a little busy right now. He’s still on the rooftop, praying for our child. I doubt he has time for you.”
