Chapter 30
Layla
Marcella had just given me a bath. She sat beside me, reading a book. Something happened last night while Dean and Aleck were with me. My throat felt dry. I tried swallowing, but my throat was dry.

She looked at me. “You can speak?”
“W–wa–water,” 1 said hoarsely. She rushed over to the table and grabbed the water. She raised the bed and held my head up as she fed me the water. At the
same time, the door opened, and the two brothers walked in.
“She’s barely able to speak,” Marcella said as she continued feeding me the wa
water. They both came over to the bed. After I drank enough water, she told me to lie back down. She then pulled the covers off my feet and began massaging them
“Layla, I need you to try. Can you try to move your toes for me?”
“O… okay,” I said in a whisper. I saw them both look at me. I tried but wasn’t sure if I did it or not. I couldn’t see.
“That’s good; can you try once more?” she asked calmly. I tried, but I still wasn’t sure. Dean and Aleck looked at me.
“You’re going to be okay, princess.”
“I will be starting her on physical therapy. If she can sit up, then that’s a start. I will need a wheelchair for her. Also, you’ll need to call the doctor over to check her up or take her to the hospital”
“Okay, we’ll get that done. We’ll have him come over.
Marcella left, and we were alone in the room. “Do you feel okay?! Aleck asked me,
“Yes.
“That’s good. You just need to focus on getting better and getting out of this bed. I’m heading out. I’ll be back soon; the others will be here too,” Dean said, leaning o over and kissing me gently.
Dean left, and Aleck just sailed at me. “We’ll handle it. We need you to hurry up and get better,” he said, leaning over and kissing me. I know my body pacted to it because I felt it deep in me. He just sailed.
“Let Marcella take care of you, ukay, baby?”
“Okay.”
After he left, Marcella came back and sat next to me. “We need to get you moving again. So, every day we’ll do a series of exercises to get your muscles activated, okay? But first, you’ll try a slightly elevated position.”

Throughout the morning, she did a series of exercises with me. I could move my toes more and had a bit of feeling in them, and I told her. It was after lunch when the door opened, and Mallory walked in along with Nella, Andrew, and Chris. When they saw me, they stopped. Mallory began crying.
“Mal, it’s okay,” I said quietly,
“I leave you and your friends, Ms.”
You can talk? Andrew said.
They came over and sat next to me. “Okay, don’t strain yourself. Dean and Aleck met us yesterday and told us to come over. When you re better, we can talk,
Andrew said.
Nella patted my hands. “Tust know we’re here for you, okay?”
“Okay. I’m tired,” I said quietly.
“Okay, pet sume rest. We’ll go speak to Dean and Aleck, just focus on
on getting
better,” Mal said.
Chapter 30
We were on the patio when they came out and sat down. “You didn’t tell us she’s speaking.” Nella said.
“We didn’t know either. We found out this morning. We have something to show you.”
I put her laptop on the table and opened the emails. The two of them were reading
Wait, when did this happen? Nella asked.
“We found it the night Andrew and Chris were here. In other news, something interesting happened last night. We know why Aleck. He handed his phone to Mallory. Chris and Andrew leaned over to get a better view.
“What the fuck?” Nella said, looking at me and Aleck.
“You, she’s in love with you?” Chris said.
“Yep, and had no idea because she hinted that she was a lesbian.”

Back when we were in college, I had once asked her if spending time with you never made her have feelings for you, and she laughed it off, saying how can she have feelings when she’s not interested in men? “Okay” I couldn’t help but smile. “Mal, can you get some cushions for the chair? Ask Hilda,”
“Okay, I’ll get them.”
I went and got her. When she saw me, she smiled her usual sinile, and my heart revived.
“It feels stifling being in the room so long,” she said. She could speak more clearly.
“Okay, princess. I’m very happy to see you smiling.”
I took her back outside; Mallory and Nella had already fixed the chair for her. I put her to sit in the chair and used a blanket to cover her feet.
“She’s in love with Aleck, 1 know because she told me. She kept repeating it over and over, accusing me of stealing him from her while she stabbed me.

“After I got to the apartment, the realtor, Jessy, her name was, I think, was already there waiting for me. We did the walkthrough, and just before I signed the papers, 1 had called you to ask if you were sure. I had just signed the papers when Kea canse. I told her to go check out the place, and she lett.”
“Tessy was explaining to me that the cameras were installed but not on, that the next day she would bring over the necessary documents and give me access to the penthouse and cameras, as she wasn’t sure whether we would close on the apartment, as most people change their minds.”

She said that’s good, that someone would find me. I stopped and turned around, and she was standing right behind me. I stepped back, I told her she was scaring me, and she said, ‘Good.”

“She asked me how I could be so selfish, so disgusting, that I had to have everything and everyone. Before 1 could register what was happening. I felt the pain in my stomach. When I looked down, she was holding the knife that was plunged into my stomach”
“Oh god.”
“She began ranting at me, asking me why I had to have them and why she couldn’t have Aleck. That she loved him, she always has, and because of me, she can’t have him. I tried pulling away from her, but she grabbed my shoulder and pulled the knife out and stabbed me again. While saying that if I was dead. maybe she would have a chance with Aleck, and Macy would have Dean.”
*Her ranting distracted her, so I pulled away and tried to run. I didn’t get far. She hit me at the back of my head, I started seeing blurry, and 1 fell over. She had a baseball bat. 1 fell on my stomach, and she continued hitting me. She then Mlipped mar over and began kicking me. I tried to stop her, but when I raised my hand and saw all the blood, I began panicking.”
“She took the bat and hit my hands; that’s when I began screaming, and she began laughing. She said I be dead soom, and she ll be the only one to survive. I couldn’t see out of my left eye, but I saw her use the bat and start hitting herself. She came over to me, and what she did was insane; she began taking my blood and rubbing it on herself. She sat up and grabbed the knife. She already had it at my throat, and I knew she was going to kill me.
