Ethan looked down at me, disgust in his eyes.
I looked at him questioningly. I hadn’t done
anything wrong. Why should I apologize? To a
dog?
I ignored him and walked away, but he
grabbed my arm.

“Apologize!”
“I didn’t do anything wrong!
We stood there, until he dragged me to the
dog.
A kick to my shin sent me to my knees.
“I’ll say it one last time, apologize to
Moonie.”
Some of Ethan’s men felt sorry for me,
“Evelyn, just apologize, it’s nothing!”
“Yeah, Evelyn, just do it!”
“I haven’t done anything wrong, I won’t
apologize!”
I refused again.
Ethan lost his temper. He shoved me into the
dog’s cage and locked it.
“Since you won’t apologize, stay there and
reflect!”
My dignity trampled, I couldn’t help but cry. “Ethan White, you can’t do this to me! I need
to see Mom one last time.”
Ethan had lost all patience. He had someone
gag me.
Tiffany came over, feigning sympathy,
“Evelyn, I don’t want to do this, but if you
don’t apologize to Moonie, he’ll be sad. He’s
just a dog, but to Ethan and me, he’s much
more important than some people!”
My eyes blazed with fury.
“Boss, the lady’s here… she… she brought
Mrs. White’s body…”
A guard rushed in, bumping into Tiffany, who
was gloating outside the cage. She exploded,
pointing at the guard,
“Are you blind? Can’t you see I’m here?”
“Are you learning to lie from Evelyn? What
body…
“”
She slapped the guard.
Ethan heard the word “body,” holding his
breath, “You said Mrs. White’s body? What
do you mean…
“”

Before he could finish, Claire White entered,
dressed in white.
Behind her, several men carried my mother-
in–law’s body.
“No, it’s impossible…”
Ethan froze.
“Ethan White, Mom’s dead! You killed her!
She could have lived, but you didn’t save her.
She’s our mother! How could you do this?!”
My sister–in–law’s anguished cry echoed
through the hall, moving everyone present.
“No, that can’t be Mom! Mom was fine at
home, how could she suddenly die?!”
Ethan shook his head frantically, trembling,
unable to approach.
My sister–in–law pulled back the white sheet,
“Then look for yourself, is this our Mom or
not?”
Ethan was stunned.
“Mom…”
