When I woke up, it was dark, smelling musty.
“Sis, you’re awake!”
My sister–in–law spoke softly.
I touched my stomach. Though I knew the
baby was gone, a sharp pain still pierced my
heart.
“Sis, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have let you go
to Marco alone. You lost your baby because
of me…”
“Jake still doesn’t believe Mom’s dead! He
says we used a fake body to trick him.”
I shook my head sadly, “It’s not your fault.”
Then, Ethan and Tiffany came in. His face
was full of anger, “Evelyn, where did you hide
my mother?”
I stared at him in surprise. He’d seen Mom’s
body, why was he still questioning me?
“That was Mom! Why don’t you believe us?
What kind of spell has this woman cast on
you?!”
My sister–in–law cried, clutching her chest.
But Ethan didn’t listen, he slapped her hard,
sending her falling to the ground.

I got up to help her, but Ethan grabbed my

“You two bitches used a fake body to trick
me! I checked, no one kidnapped Mom. Tell

I found him irrational. Mom’s body was right
there, and he still didn’t believe it.

tricked your sister into acting with her, but
also Aunt Evelyn.”
“Aunt Evelyn’s probably on vacation
somewhere.”
Ethan’s eyes burned with fury. He grabbed
my neck, forcing me to reveal Mom’s
whereabouts.
I was choking, but still scoffed,
“Ethan White, even if you kill me, it won’t
help. Mom is dead. Killed by your unfilial
conduct.”
His grip tightened. I was nearly unconscious.
