Chapter 14 A Sinner
Charlotte said, “I’m dressed.”
To her surprise, the car light was turned on in the next second.
She still sat in place, looking out the window without saying anything, her face flushing faintly.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, Malcolm remained silent for a while. Then he stubbed out his cigarette and said, “I’ll take you back.”
It was a half–hour drive to the Townsend’s home.
Charlotte’s heart was in turmoil, and she couldn’t stand being in here any longer. She reached out, wanting to push the car door open and get
out.
Malcolm was surprised. He grabbed her hand, asking, “What are you doing?”
She said, “I’ll go back myself.”
“But there’s half an hour left,” he murmured.
After a moment of silence, she said, “I’ll hail a cab.”
He frowned. Just then, she broke free with great force suddenly and plunged into darkness.
“Charlotte!”
Malcolm called out to her in the car.

But she ignored him. She quickly hailed a cab, sat inside, and left.
It was already too late for Malcolm to get out of the car.
After Charlotte came back home, it was quiet everywhere. Not wanting to face Marlene, she quickly strode upstairs and slid back into her
room.
She shut the door with force and then leaned against it.
The second she closed her eyes, the scene where she and Malcolm hugged each other came back to her.
She was a sinner.
At first, she had thought she could remain detached and totally unmoved. However, she inevitably surrendered to lust. She’d blush, pant, and want more.
She was indeed a sinner.
Marlene obviously had no idea when she had come back. Over breakfast in the morning, Marlene asked, “I thought you went to school. yesterday. When did you come back? I didn’t even hear you.”
Eating oatmeal absent–mindedly, Charlotte remained silent.
Noticing she wasn’t in the mood to talk, Marlene glanced at her a few times and then put some high–protein food onto her plate. “Too skinny isn’t a good thing. Eat this.”
Charlotte was simply glad it wasn’t some weird, nutritious soup again. She stuffed food into her mouth until her cheeks bulged, though she almost felt sick.

After breakfast, Marlene said, “Why don’t you come with me to the hospital to check on Danielle? Jermaine will be back from his business. trip this afternoon, and he’ll go there, too.”
In the next second. Charlotte’s phone rang on the table. Marlene subconsciously looked over and saw Humberto’s name flashing on the
screen.
Charlotte immediately clutched the phone and answered after a long time, “OK.”
Marlene didn’t know how things were going between Charlotte and Humberto. She quickly averted her gaze, pretending that she hadn’t seen anything.
In fact, she preferred to see Charlotte and Humberto together.
In such a way, everything would go back to normal after Danielle recovered.
In the afternoon, they came to the hospital. Upon entering the ward, Charlotte saw Jermaine Townsend, her father, sitting by the bed while amusing Danielle with his jokes.
Marlene quickly walked forward and asked Danielle how she felt.
Danielle had been smiling all this time with the gifts Jermaine had brought for her from abroad in her arms.
Charlotte stood not far away from them, not getting any closer. She was like an outsider, watching them interact.
Just then, Danielle noticed her. “Dad. Charlotte’s been standing there forever. You haven’t talked to her since you came back, right?”

Being reminded. Jermaine realized his mistake. He immediately turned around and apologized to Charlotte. “I’m so sorry, Charlotte. I’ve been worried sick about Danielle and forgot you were there.”
Charlotte had never wanted more because she was already content with what she had. She immediately said. “It’s fine, Dad. Marlene and I are with you at home every day, while Danielle is in the hospital alone. It’s only right that you spend some time with her.”
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Those in the ward all looked. up and saw Malcolm at the door with Dawson. He smiled, “What’s got you so happy?”
Danielle beamed upon seeing him. “Malcolm, I’m so glad to see you. Come here and take a look. Dad brought me so many gifts from his trip. He still thinks of me as a little girl.”
Since Malcolm showed up, his gaze was glued to Danielle the whole time. He didn’t see Charlotte after he walked inside, and he paused before gazing at her.
Meeting his gaze, Charlotte immediately turned her head away, averting it.
He soon looked away and walked straight toward Danielle with a gentle smile. “You’ll always be a little girl to Jermaine.”
Standing by the bed, he looked at Danielle utterly affectionately.
Danielle held his hand. “I’m gonna be mad now that you’re teasing me.”
He held her hand back and said dotingly, “As long as you cooperate with the treatment.”
Charlotte lowered her head when she saw their intertwined hands.
Out of the corner of his eye. Malcolm glanced at her imperceptibly.
Just then. Marlene said. “Charlotte, come here. I’m sure Danielle wants to chat with you.”
Charlotte nodded and walked over, standing next to Malcolm.
Marlene asked. “Malcolm, was Charlotte… with you last night?”
Her question was subtle.
Jermaine’s expression changed slightly.
Charlotte’s relationship with Malcolm was a sensitive secret.
Charlotte remained silent, and Malcolm replied naturally, “Yes. I sent her back.”
boyfriend
Marlene smiled and said meaningfully, “I see. I saw her bo calling her in the morning and thought they were together last night.”
Charlotte pursed her lips, and the ward fell silent.
Soon, Danielle smiled, breaking the silence, “Mom, Charlotte isn’t a little girl anymore. She deserves a little freedom.”
Marlene didn’t respond.
Malcolm changed the subject, saying, “I’ll go have a word with the doctor. You guys go ahead.”
Danielle let go of his hand. “OK.”
Then he walked out of the ward. Feeling a bit stuffy in here, Charlotte said twenty minutes later, “I’ll step out for a bit, Dad.”
Her voice was barely audible, and no one heard her. After standing in place for a while, she walked out without saying anything anymore.
As she closed the door, she happened to see Malcolm leaving the doctor’s office.
She stood in place stiffly.
Hearing the sound of the door closing, Malcolm turned around, and their eyes locked.
Just as she was about to walk away, he walked toward her and handed her a tube of ointment.
Puzzled, she looked up at him.
He said. “I asked the doctor for this.
“Last night got a bit… intense. Sorry.”
